Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 6

There are very few cabinets/ amps that don't have their speaker outputs/ daisy chains wired in parallel. The only one I've ever owned was a 70s Music Man HD-130 amp that had series-connected speaker outputs on the back of the amp. Super uncommon though!

If your cabs were connected in series, you'd only be running 16 ohms, so you would definitely notice a lack of headroom with that combo.

I think the main exception to the rule of parallel input jacks would be cabs wired with mono/stereo inputs, where plugging into a single jack runs the cab in mono, and plugging into the 2nd jack enables biamping into the same cab. I haven't seen these too often, but they are out there (more often on guitar cabs).

Usually these are still parallel connections though- I used my friend's 80s Ampeg cab for awhile that was a 1x15 and a 4x10 in the same box- each section was 8 ohms by itself, or you could use the mono jack for both at 4 ohms. Maybe you just mean an exception in that some cabs have jacks that serve purposes other than just daisy-chaining though?

Yeah, its more common in 2x12 or 4x12 guitar setups where you might want to run your rig in stereo to maximize the effects of a stereo delay or other modulation effects. Like this option on an Avatar guitar cab:

It works the way you say, each side is 8 ohms, or 4 ohms combined (or 16ohms if you use the bottom jack). But you couldn't use this setup to daisy-chain to another cab.

Just got my WA back from the kindly amp doctors at the Mesa store. Ran me about $250 after everything, and supposedly it's all ship shape and ready to rock. I'll test it out tonight if I get the chance.

If nothing else, I am now the proud owner of 6 fried MOSFETs and a handful of IC's that were in a little plastic baggie attached to my WA gig bag. I will keep them forever as a reminder of my sinful beer-tipping ways.

Spiffy!

About spending money, I hear you!!! When someone makes their first post on TalkBass, I often welcome them and advise them to hide their credit cards!

I'm afraid to actually make a list of all of the gear I've bought and sold since I became involved with (first The Bottom Line and now) TalkBass...

This is so true I am new to the Forum and drool about what some of you guys have and how you describe it. When me and the wife were younger I used to put her on the street for a couple of weeks if I needed to upgrade. Now we are both 59 and I doubt she could/would to it. For instance a couple years ago I sent her out and (converting to dollars) she came home with $200 and 75 cents. I asked her who gave her the 75 cents and she said EVERYBODY!

Took my WA head to a gig tonight to use with my Berg AE212 & using my regular ol' P bass I was getting very little clean output. Overdrive happening at 9 o'clock gain! Had to use my back up- GB Shuttle- thank goodness for that great li'l, gig bag fitting amp!
B4 I go poking around, do y'all reckon the V1 tube?
Any hints appreciated!

Back OT, took the lid off my Walkabout (the one that lives in the headcase) yesterday, finally got some time!
Took out the Mesa branded 12ax7 in V1 & swapped it for a '70's Philips ax7 I had.
Seems to be all fixed! Notice a warmer, smoother OD also.
At least she gets to 12-1 o'clock before the dirt hits.

12-1 is pretty good. IME the Mesa tubes seem to break up a bit earlier than others, and also seem to go bad more frequently. I'm currently using a new Sovtek and a vintage Amperex.

Yeah, I got that.
Which tubes are in which spot-outta the Sovtek & Amperex?
I tried about 5 AX7's out in it & the old Philips seemed nicest.
I think there was nothing 'wrong' with the stock Mesa tube, just that I was more USED to my other WA which has "Chef's selection" ;) tubes in it. A JJ gold & a Tung-Sol in that. & that it strays cleaner a li'l more, & has a smoother OD.
SO when I used the 'stock' WA & started to run it fairly hard, it ran into OD earlier, & I noticed it more also.
I might get another "Chef's Selection" set anyway, even tho I do like the Philips & Mesa combo of tubes that are in it now.
A gig will tell me more.

Hey guys, I need some pricing help. I'm pondering putting up for sale my beloved Scout 15 cabinets. These are custom covered in lizard wine with vintage beige grills. Extremely rare and sharp looking. Rate them as 9 of 10 on cosmetics. Maybe 9.5. I plan to keep the Walkabout amp. Any thoughts on a asking price for the pair? I'm moving into a Berg cabinet and need to raise some funds.

Here are some pics -- you've seen them before on this thread:

If I didn't just buy a pair of 15's I'd be all over those!

As for what they are worth, I dunno. The last few Scout & Radiator cabs that i saw were just the plain black ones, and I think they were listed somewhere around $400, with the price going down to make a sale. I don't think they were in 9/10 condition either.
