Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Just in case anyone searches for 'M6 Carbine' and finds this thread, I want to say that my M6 has been an absolute workhorse for the past 5 years. The amp has never gone down, never thrown a fuse, and it's been tossed around and banged about a lot. It's been subjected to extreme temperature variations up here in Canada.

I used to run various preamps with a Crest 3001 and I felt like there was some sort of difference with all that power behind the cab, even running at lower levels. I tried the Class D/lightweight stuff for a while (Markbass, Epifani) and while they were good, I wanted to get back to dense woods and heavy metal. I'm back to it with a Bergantino 4 x 10 and the M6.

Engineers are quite happy with the DI out on it. I run it basically flat so I can't say that much about the tone shaping (the mid control seems to be boost only). The only quibble is the mute function which is built into the volume knob - it's hard to mute the amp without changing the volume setting.

I've done hundreds of shows with this rig and it just keeps on giving.

My M6 just bombed out on me after a couple of years of faithful service (and I bought it second-hand, so it already had a few miles on the clock.) Not looking forward to the bill to get it repaired, I understand it can get spendy, but I'm going to bite the bullet and get it done right, I love this amp.

Darn, sorry to hear about that! I called MB before buying this amp (can't recall why, just needed some info) and the guy spent 30 minutes on the phone with me. I think they're fairly focused on customer service. Is there any value in calling them up and seeing what can be done? It's out of warranty for sure, right?

Yep, the warranty has definitely expired on my head. I'll call Mesa to get the scoop on repairing it.

Hi people, i'm new from italy. i have M6 carbine head and yesterday i had a Heat protection block... I used it at 2ohm impedence with 2 cabs (4ohm for each one). After an half an hour the temperature increase and the M6 went into "protection mode". Is everything normal? Even using the 2ohm switch should not heat up? ( I use a 2-unit flight case and I thought I would take one from 3 Units to get better air circulation...and I also have the M6 version with the top panel closed and not the ventilated one, is it a problem? maybe mine is the 1th version?

It should not do that.
It sounds like yours is older and would benefit from upgrades to current spec

Can advise how to get help
Yes, contact the authorized distributor in Italy and they will be able to assist directly.

So, the overheating seems a known problem...right? I have another question, have you ever measured the power of the final stage by a technician? Well, I found that at 4 ohms it is around 370watt, while at 600watts it only rises to 2ohm, but the manual says otherwise... Then I have another question: have you ever set the small limiter trimmer that is in it? How much is it to be?

Anyone have a diagram schematic of M6/M9 ? i did not find anyone on the web or on Mesa Website...
I don't recall ever seeing one on the solid state bass amps. Whether Mesa would publish/distribute them widely outside of authorized repair center circles would be my first question - for many reasons I can think of, my guess would be they don't.

Hi people I have another question about M6: is it normal to wait some second ( about ten..) after the "ceck initial click" than Mosfet are ready to sound?
I think most amps (as do my Mesa's) have a multi-second delay before a relay allows the amp to provide sound to the speakers. I believe it is primarily for protection of the speakers themselves, but may have other reliability benefits.

is there a "subsonic filter" in poweramp section? to preserve the speaker?
Based only on this language copied from the Mesa Carbine M6 manual, I would say there is a high pass filter in the circuitry somewhere before the amplifier section:

PULL DEEP: The M6 CARBINE features a pull shift for the BASS control that allows you to choose between two different regions of low end and affects how the control will react.
When the control is pushed in (normal) the bass frequencies are higher and a cut-off is employed so that below a certain point, sub-low frequencies are not part of the mix. This results in a tighter, faster feeling response that is more articulate and will stand out and be heard in a live stage environment. This also works well for recording scenarios where the Bass part needs to sync-up with a complex kick drum line or anytime you need a defined, punchy sound that won’t get lost as the layers of other parts get applied.
PULL DEEP (control pulled out) allows the entire range of low frequencies to pass and fill in the curves creating a warm, rich sound that is foundational for smaller groups. Along with these deeper lows, a subtle enhancement of the super-high frequencies is added to create a round, breathing cushion of air the whole band can ride. Be sure to check out this setting for three-piece Rock or Blues combos and playing R & B styles where you need to ad juice to thumbing part.

Yes, but very different than what is used in the Subways.
...and that difference is quite obvious in good way based on my experience with the D-800 and the Carbines. Additionally, I find the deep switch on the Subway quite usable while preserving some measure of low end control that makes me feel comfortable that I'm not punishing my speakers - the deep function on the Carbine is not all that useful for me and doesn't make me think "speaker friendly".
