Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Do you have a Guitar Center close by? They have several used ones for 600-800, you can have it shipped there at minimal risk.

Yes, I checked GC. I'd really prefer to buy one off TB so I'd know a little history on it. I know there were revisions and upgrades and would like to know from seller if they were done or not. I understand GC has a nice return policy and whatnot, but I play it pretty safe when buying higher end gear. I won't rule GC out but I'm only going to pay top used $ for an amp that I can verify history on, otherwise it's too much hassle for my taste. Now if a screamer deal pops up on GC that could sway me.

Do remember that if you have the serial number and the head was sent back to Mesa for upgrades, Mesa can confirm that with a phone call. Personally I would not be as comfortable with some of the major upgrades if they were done outside the factory - and I'm not even sure if any were. Simple straight forward repairs done by a Mesa authorized repair site (not the factory guys) would be fine with me.

Today I actually get to go to a mom and pop brick and mortar music store and try an M6 as opposed to just buying one. It's on consignment for $850 which seems a little steep, but at least I'll get to try it before I buy anything (which is rare for me).

The only Mesa cabs they have to try it with are a PH410 and SW210. I was hoping to try a new SW 2xsomething but they do not have any. I'm bringing my Warwick Streamer 5 and my B3k. Pretty stoked, as I usually just have to do a ton of research and just buy before try on most my gear.

Have fun! The M6 and PH410 will tell you a lot about what the head is capable of IME. I think the SW cabs sound as equally as good as, and slightly more polite/sophisticated than the PH cabs.

It was awesome! I turned the tweeter on then 410 all the way down. My preferred setting: bass 11:00 (dialed it back for boomy room) mid 12:00, treble 10:00, voicing 4, gain 12:00. Man this amp sounded great. This thread was so spot on about the complex mids and I love mids! I tried it with my B3K and thought it sounded better without. Now I want one even more.

It could also get Vintagey sounding in voicing 1 and 2. What a great sounding amp. And I imagine the M9 is just more of a good thing. Hard decision between M6/9. I'm on the hunt.

That voicing at 4 is home for me. Love that setting so much.

I ended up buying a mint one-owner M9 for a good price. It doesn't have all the updates, but functions flawlessly according to seller. If it proves to be more feature-rich than I need I'll sell it and get an M6. I wanted to start with the most and work down if need be. I'm the type of person who would get an M6 and always be wondering how the M9 is.

Congrats on getting a great amp! Once you've used the M9, the only reason to move to the M6 would be because you just like a simpler front panel control layout.

I've always been happiest when my gear is simple and straight forward. I always seem to find a setting that works and just leave it there. I have and adore my 6 for it's simplicity. But my buddy's 9 sounds just as great as my 6.

Congrats on the amp. I'm sure that it will be a keeper.

PH410, berg HD212, or berg NV610T....pick your poison. All sound fantastic with the mighty M6!

So I didn't know where else to post this, but I got a sweet deal on a new home for my M6. It's been riding my cab bare and it was driving me nuts. So I found a fella here local selling an 8u Road Ready case for $40 bucks, I snagged it and now my M6 can sit atop my PH1000 without feeling naked. Next I just need a shelf to house my pedals (since they're always on) and I'll be set. Btw this head is loud enough on it's own, but running through a Darkglass X7 I can't even push the master past 2, it's just unbelievably loud and leaves my guitarist using a Triple Rectifier gasping for air. The volume is suffocating, but the tone is so bone crushing!!

I have had this problem with a Fathom I have and will no longer use the DI will use my Radial JDI instead.Called Mesa and they say they have never heard this problem but believe there are more people with this but not saying anything ?
Noisy D.I. here...
My M9 last night had a buzzing D.I. sound that we couldn't fix in any way...replaced all the cables, even the power core, replaced wireless with cable, removed the pedalboard...nothing would work.then, all of a sudden, it went away. That makes me think of some external factor, but it makes me cringe that out of three bands with three different bass amps, mine was the only one who did this.

That makes me wonder if there was some kind of radio interference? I know that if you set your cell phone on top of some amps they go haywire. I gigged my M9 tonight and went DI. It went well. That amp just crushes. To me, it may be too much for some genres, but when you need to bring the quickness and punch nothing else comes close. I basically look at the master knob or blow on it and I'm loud enough for a 3 piece metal band lol.

I actually just purchased an M3 it's on it's way. I want to try the lower wattage model to see if I can actually push it hard and turn it way up and see how it reacts. I'm hoping for some serious awesome sauce with the preamp past noon and see how far I can push the master.
