Mesa M6 Carbine Mega-Thread Pt Deux

I read the article in Bass Gear Magazine which along with the M6 also reviewed the Mesa 212 and gave the 212 a big thumbs up. I tried the M6 with my Bergie AE410 and it sounded pretty damn incredible! Has anyone used the M6 with any of the Mesa Powerhouse speakers?

I spent quite a bit of time with the M6 and the Powerhouse 610. My gosh, what a cab. And, at 135 pounds and almost 20" deep.... what a cab! Great tone though, and that switchable crossover is pretty cool.

Interuption for continuation of Mesa Saga: I called Mesa again but this time to ask about my order for the amp (my dealer is closed on Monday and I am getting impatient). Now around 62 days. I got a different Rep this time, but still no satisfaction. He said, can't help you, tell your dealer to talk to his rep. C'mon Mesa, what is up with that? I say well its been 60 plus days on the M6. He says we custom build all orders and 8-10 weeks is the range.:eyebrow:

Well since I still have no warm fuzzy on the FX send and am still losing sleep at night I ask the question again. Why? Still no good answer other than that is in fact the way it works and there is no "mod" to fix it or the DI thing (like there is on the walkabout). Man, this amp better kick some major butt, because this process and the lack of answers is sure turning me off. I am engineer (not an EE) but answers and knowlegable CS is important to me. When you call and some CS rep says no that's not the way it works and some other CS rep says no they all work that way but not sure why. Again, C'mon, ask the freakin' designer. There is an answer, figure it out Mesa.

Adult beverage of choice to anyone who "knows" someone at Mesa and can get the answer.

Not sure of all the details, but on the surface, it appears to be more of a dealer issue than a Mesa issue.

If your interested, Buddy Roger's Music in Cincinnati has one in stock at the new price. Not sure if you got the old price or new price when you orderd, but if you can't wait and don't mind the shipping cost, it's an option.

Good luck...

Sounds like your dealer dropped the ball on this to me. Sounds like the order might or might not have even gotten to Mesa. They are usually very quick in delivery IME.

And, FYI, Mesa is very respectful of and dependent on their dealer network. So, they will not talk about delivery issues with the end customer. That would create chaos in the retail chain.

Regarding the technical information, I can't comment on that. I guess I would just restate again that if I find an amp (even one I like) lacks a significant feature that I find very important, I do not buy that amp... period. IMO again (just trying to provide some perspective here), if I was going into a major purchase thinking that I have to do a mod (much less two mods) that might or might not even be doable, I don't think I would personally be moving ahead with the order.

The M6 is a great amp. It's not the only great amp out there:smug::).

Thanks for the info and reassurance. I am almost positive it is not a dealer thing. He is an authorized repair center for Mesa and does lots of repairs. He has a whole bunch of Mesa guitar stuff and still has a new 400. He also has a scout combo and the new 4-12" cabinet. I am pretty sure he is on good terms with Mesa and his rep. When I ordered it, he called me the next day and said he had placed the order with Mesa (ya it was the old price since it was ordered 11-13-08). I went in about a week later and he said he had talk to someone (name escapes me) and that it could be 60 days.

Ken, I can get past not having the features if it kicks (which it will) and even drop the compressor;), but it still doesn't answer why it is that way. And calls to Mesa sure haven't helped. With calls to other companies such as Berg, Sadowsky, Skjold, MTD I have always been satisfied with their techinical answers. Just saying Mesa needs to step uo their game IMO.

Tom,
Thanks and if you get an answer I will owe you two beverages of your choice (the other for picking out the top/board woods for the skjold) and may be able to make good on that in April or so when it is finished. Hope the Mesa is here before that:D

Cory, I luv ya bud, but yes it is.

I'm not saying the dealer originally screwed up, maybe he was great and did place the order right away. HOWEVER, it IS still a dealer issue to resolve. Your dealer should be dogging Mesa, not you. You should be dogging your dealer to dog them, and insist on regular updates.

Your calling Mesa direct had the expected results. What Ken means by being respectful of their dealers is the right thing to do as a manufacturer. As soon as an OEM starts dealing directly with the customers of their dealers, the dealer network starts to fall apart. Most dealers severely resent that, so it has to be pretty strict policy as an OEM... even if in your case your dealer is cool with you going around them like this.

What you can do with Mesa, is complain about a dealer. What you can't do, is take your dealer's place and "go direct" on dealing with the order itself.

That said, I can hear you becoming sour on the whole deal at this point, and really, that's the worst of it all. Don't let a logistical bungle sour you on the amp. Two separate issues.

IMHO. :)

Cory, PM'ing you and Tom on this.

Also, if you have a gig this weekend, or even if you just wanna' experiment, you can borrow mine if you want, since I'm gone to NAMM. Oh, and you have a bass to check out at some point, too. :)

Lemme know.

Guys,

Again thanks. You have to expect a wait when your are looking a custom amps/basses/gear, but this sucks. That coupled with finding about a few quirks before I have it in hand has not helped. I have enjoyed several fine Mesa amps; walkabout, Mpulse600, BB750 and a powerhouse 1000, but have never had any luck dealing with CS on other issues as well. Must be bad mojo from when I was dealing with them on a blown speaker in the powerhouse 1000. Got resolved but not without a few gray hairs.

Vic,

I'll PM on the amp thing. Thanks.

So let me get this straight.

You can find a Boogie unit somewhere else (not in your area) in stock and can not buy it but can go to your area and not get one if they do not have it.

To me that makes no sense at all.

So and so actually has one but sense it's out of my area I can not have it? Hocky pucks.

Unless you meet a very specific set of circumstances, they aren't allowed to ship out of their dealer territory. Since you are in New York and they are not, most likely they are violating their agreement by selling to you.

Is Mesa vastly different from other manufacturers? I can't see how they would care or could control this type of thing. It's capitalism. Does this mean I can't order anything from Bass Central anymore because I don't live in Florida?

I allways had good luck with customer service at Boogie.

I purchased one of thos MBassis 2000's new and it was pretty much a dud right off the bat. They gave me a 400+ instead. I was a happy camper.

For me I have been a Boogie user for over twentyfive years. You could not part me from my 1988 Mark III Guitar Amp, however at this time they are not currently making any Bass Gear that interests me in the least. My favorite Boogie Bass Amp has allways been the Bass 400 (not +). Had someone not stolen it I would still have it.

Have you ever noticed how Mesa doesn't have any online dealers? They are very protective of their dealer agreements. Yes, they are different than the vast majority of music manufacturers.

I realize they don't have online dealers. I've dealt with Buddy Roger's for years. They are a reputable dealer and I can't believe they would knowingly violate an agreement such as this.

I gotta believe once David asked to have it shipped to NY, they would have balked.

Well, I had called all the dealers listed in NY over last two days and none of them had a Carbine in stock or on order. So, this was only way I could get one now.

But I did speak to a couple of other out of state dealers who had a Carbine or two on order, and none of them indicated there would be any problem shipping to NY state once it was in stock.
