That *might* have been an M6 back then...

However, the M9 and one 8 ohm GK Neo112 seems to be ok. Much different deal though. Those Em LF drivers just really want some juice, I think.

Yeah I think so too.I talked to Leland before the cab left the shop and he was telling me how loud the cab was.I know it can get there but I felt just like that- didn't seeming the M9 was going to get there.I'm going to spend some time this week with it.

The 18sound didn't bother me.I actually liked it though I had to tame it down.That thing is strong.

Im not sure what I was expecting out of it really.Just seemed like I can get to the volume I was at with a much smaller cab.

Looks like the Mesa PH 115's and some BFM Jack 12's are next on the to try list.

Wow - You don't hear of too many amps that you can say that about. That tells you a little something about the M9. I don't miss the Titan at all because I am so pleased with the M9. My band mates are going to freak out because I only got the Titan and PH412 about two months ago. I'm not going to tell them about the change - I want to see how observant they are.;)

I just scored a Mesa M6 Carbine last weekend. Took it to a gig and without anyone knowing. While I was tuning up the guitar player who's back was to me turned around and said; Wow, you sound GOOD tonight! Case closed.

I suggest spending more time with it on voice 3 ("flat") before you arrive at a final conclusion. Mine gets deathly loud, even with 450 watts @ 8 Ohms. IMO the fact that you were outdoors is huge. Was it a scenario where an 810 would've been a good idea?

I would guess an 810 would be mich louder than what I heard Saturday night.It would get loud but was breaking up pretty bad on the low end.Dont know what I could be missing, but deathly loud is not how I would describe what I'm getting.At one point I ran the input gain up to 3oclock.I'm also guessing the outdoor stage played a huge roll-I'm indoors Friday night.Thing is the loud outdoor stage type gig is what I wanted this for in the first place.My Berg seemed to be just as loud or louder-However the bottom end of the 15/6/1 is the best I've heard.Filled the stage nicely.Slap tone was killer too.

Hi Chef.
The M9 that I purchased was a floor model and I'm not too sure how long it was in the store. I purchased it from one of Milwaukee's most popular music stores and I'm sure that they cycle through theri gear fairly regularly. The amp is in pristine condition with no scratches or lettering wear to speak of. I was wondering how I could tell if I got an up-to-date M9 with the extra fan as I do plan to run it with two 4 Ohm cabs down the road?? My M9 is in the Mesa rack case - when I look through the vents on top of the case I can also see a big vent on top of the amp. Thanks again for your much appreciated input and advice!

Lotsa vents is good.
You should be able to see the second, internal fan by looking in the left front panel vent with a flashlight and squinting just right...
You could call mesa with your serial number and ask...

I'm not sure if I see one? I did notice a hand written date on the back of the amp - 10/27/10. Any idea about when they started adding the extra fan?

I'd call with your serial number. None of my Mesa stuff has ever had hand written dates that I recall...
I'd bet if it was made on/about that date, you're good, but, why risk it?

Here is a comment from chef about the active switch:

My M9 is hissing a quite a bit - but only when I'm sitting in front and facing it with my bass (Pedulla Thunderbolt). When I face away from it the hiss decreases significantly. I wonder if it is a shielding problem with my bass - never noticed it with my other amps thou?? Kinda strange.

Yeah-an 810 should be louder. My point is that you should approximate the 15/6 to a 410 in terms of volume. If the stage calls for an 810, you'd need 2 15/6s. What was your eq like? I have never been able to push my LDS to distortion or compression with the M9 flat, only if I goose the eq. The clarity is something to behold. Don't know whether it's significant that my 15/6s are nEarfuls and not fEarfuls. Greenboy says mine are both inferior beasts.....but that's an assertion on paper, even if it is rooted in logic.

Not to answer for Alan, but that would be my recommendation. Now, of course you should switch to active if you hear what could be input signal overload (or if you typically play with a good bit of boost on an active on-board EQ).
