Mesa Subway Bass DI-Preamp

Since plugged into the crest the low mid and bass knobs on my mesa di have been turned way down. Still plenty of bass turned down!

This is an indication that the overall spectral balance of the speaker system might be skewed for the application. I would expect that the results might be different outdoors, or if the sub was turned down a bit.

Yeah, I gig a fEARful 1515/66 with a Crest ProLite 2.0 bridged at 4 ohms. I am a couple of months away from the Subway DI. Then, I'd trim my 4 space SKB rack down to a Gator 2 space rack bag - cool. A California preamp for California reggae (cool for me at least). Does it come with an AC adapter?

Does not come with an AC adapter. So many folks already have plenty, and others have pedal board power supplies. If you don't have either, then a power supply (or batteries) will be necessary. I recommend the power supply, a 1-Spot is what I use for testing and it works quite well (IMO).

What? You're carting aroung a 66 and you're worried about saving 2 rack spaces? C'mon man.:D OK, me too...... But I'm actually looking to take my preamp to my pedalboard since I do play ampless gigs a lot. My Mesa DI is enroute now! Super stoked. And 2K watts through a 66 is a awesome thing, right?:bassist:

This is tonal heaven! The BMC makes this a DI+ board. Tuner lives on my headstock, and my bass has a mute switch. Porkloin (johnk modded) adds hair when I need it and the Diamond does, well, what the Diamond does. Soundman at church rehearsal said it's the best he's ever heard my bass.
Seriously considering a QSC K10 or the like. Any suggestions?

QSC K10 probably does not have adequate low end performance at higher SPL for bass guitar applications. With a K-Sub might be fine, or maybe a K12 but I would really recommend trying these out in person and hopefully with a band.

+1!:thumbsup: Try this first... has worked well for me but the days of 4x10s and full stack bandmates are behind me (for now at least).

IMO: K12/Subway is fine for most small to medium bar gigs with "controlled" band-mates using either the mic or line out ports and selecting the corresponding input on the K12 (I find less "hiss" with line in on K12 personally - let the Subway handle the gain and not the speaker). I've never had a bar ask us to turn up (has anyone?!). I further find the K12's dispersion pattern allows me to hear myself better than a typical combo - really lets the Subway shine too. Box-Store A let me plug directly in to test the K10 v K12 with my own bass so if you can, I'd recommend doing the same. You'll never make it outdoors though with just a K12 (unless its a very small setting)... but that's what PA and Subs are for... and/or vans and 4x10s.

Cool, you play a 66 too.
I tried out my 66 cab and main bass one day in a local store that had a Subway - regular version. I had to be nice in the store with regard to the overall volume.
That head sounded really great with my cab. There's a pretty good chance that either of the 3 Subways would give me the tone I need. It'd be great if I could trim down my rack to simple my Crest 2.0 and the Subway pedal. I'd need to gig with the 800+ to know for sure if it can drive my cab to the clean level that I need ((( for my monitor - ha ha ha ))).
Actually, I do detune my 2.0 to a level quite a bit below it's upper end of power. For 5 years or so, I've been flipping rack bass preamps and power amps to find what I need for this cab. I've learned how to EQ my cab with several of the different preamps that I've flipped. The Subway head I tried out that day allowed my to dial in my tone very quickly.

I've done small outdoor gigs with just a pair of K10s for the PA (one as a single main, the other as a monitor). I plug either into the Subway DI or straight into the mixer. You don't get a ton of booty, but for a not-too-loud show it sounded fine. With a loud drummer and/or guitar you'd be pushing it though.

I don't recall, and don't have one here at my R&D lab to check out. You can call the customer service guys and have them actually look at one or check with the guy who designed the sheet metal.
