Metalheads Club #1

What a great thread. 69 Vintage here. Aside from being into Kiss when I was 8-9 years old, I mostly was listening to the pop stuff that was out there at the time in 1980, Michael Jackson, disco, etc. Then on Halloween 1980 I heard the album Highway to Hell played by my friends cousin, and life was never the same after that. Not only was it powerful, but the lead singer (Bon) had recently died! I remember my friend's cousin wearing a Blue Oyster Cult shirt and thinking, "it's not just a band, but a cult! Scary!". Then I got into the usual suspects at the time, ACDC, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin in particular (a mere 6 months after Bonham's death), bought the Killers album based on the album cover alone and got really into Maiden staring in 1981.

My first concert was Iron Maiden/Saxon/Fastway at the Cow Palace in 1983 on Maiden's first headlining tour. Had the jean jacket with the big a** Piece of Mind back patch, and some Motorhead and Judas Priest patches. I was crushed when my mom tossed it out when I went to college. Saw Judas Priest and Van Halen in 1984, Monsters of Rock in 1988, saw Exodus at the I-Beam on Haight St. in SF on Good Friday the 13th in 1990. What a show! Probably more that I'm forgetting. Have Metallica's Ride The Lightening on Megaforcee when it came out, among many other metal albums on independent labels at the time. I also have the WASP I **** Like a Beast EP, which I thought would be much heavier than it was.

I don't play it, even though I tried, mostly during my guitar playing days, but I still listen to the old school metal stuff.

Great thread. My memories of death metal stem from my first Deicide show back in Corona, CA in '95. After that it was on...from Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Dying Fetus...every time they were in town near or far...we were there. Can I join??? Too bad #666 is taken :)
A fellow San Diegan and a Metalhead, of course you can join!!!.....you got #19 my friend

So I just moved from PB to La Mesa, what part of town are you in?

I use to have a Levi jacket to back in the day, the one lined with lamb skin or whatever it was. That was the hip stuff back then. Wish I still had mine to.

I loved Kiss to....still do.....but I remember when I was about 17, I went and seen em and got so stoned and drunk I passed out during the concert....and we had floor seats!!

I still can't believe I passed out at a Kiss concert with as loud as it was!!

RobBottom69, nice to have you aboard, you got #20 my friend!

Metalhead here gimme a number.

When I was 8 I believe my uncle got me Master of Puppets and I've always been into metal since. Being so young I didn't really go to a metal show until a little later but I've seen some big bands along with those in my local scene and I've seen Metallica at the first orion fest, both days.

I use Ibanez basses and recently a warwick dark lord. Ampeg head with a hartke 8×10. My area is kinda tough to find guys my age to play with so in my current band we all like different genres of metal but it works.

Love the carbon fiber finish on the Ray
Thanks, I did some body shaping to provide some relief to the forearm, and contoured the belly.....I ended up shaving about 2 lbs of wood off the slap body

So, when I finished, I didn't want to paint or stain, so I went out of the box and hydro dipped it.

It cost me $175.00 to do it and it came out pretty awesome.....IMO
