Microtubes X

Always been hesitant on DG stuff but want to know if this could dethrone my XD-1.
Having had the XD-1 and the VFE RUP, it sounds like it addresses my two main gripes with them: the distortion characteristic was always mushy and it felt like it was layered on top of the clean instead of blended into one. DG has amazing blends and it sounds like it's a less mushy fizzy distortion. Mileage will vary of course

Wasn’t this the idea of the VFE Triumvirate, except it split the signal in three? Always wish I’d tried one before it was discontinued.

Multiband distortion has been around for decades. It was popularized by John Entwistle through the cumbersome but wonderfully effective technique of using clean bass amp(s) for lows and dirty guitar amp(s) for highs. It's been a studio technique for decades...

...but OK, you're talking pedals. :D Multiband OD pedals have been available for years from a number of manufacturers. I like my VFE Triumvirate, but it's awkward to manipulate because of the six controls crammed onto the small pedal, and I've never attempted to tweak the internal trim pots for the filter frequencies because that's even more awkward. I could name a few more that have been around for awhile... but in short, a Darkglass multiband OD pedal has been tops on my wish list for years, and I'm thrilled that it's now a reality and I'll have my hands on one soon! :hyper:

Having seen Doug’s post about the X7 approximating many of their other drive sounds short of Omega, I think I’m going to order one. I’ll likely be doing some gigs without an amp when I’m on the west coast, so I’m a little concerned about the more limited EQ on the X7 alone. Maybe I’ll still do AOU + X7, I don’t know.

Please let us west coasties know where you’re playing... I love seeing TB bands.
