I'm pretty sure the had a tarp over the entire upper deck, certainly in the outfield.

Of course, I was/am a Mets fan. I remember going to weekend games about '76-78, crowds about 5K.

I actually wasted an hour or so of my life and looked up/read a bunch of preseason coverage (hype) written about my depressing Cards. If I drank the Kool-Aid I would be looking forward to a great season of amazing improvement.
Not buying it this year. The entire front office needs to go. Then maybe we can get started towards getting back to where the Cards belong.

I really wish Chaim Bloom was taking over as GM this year rather than next, but he has an excellent history with the farm system/minors, which is what he'll be focusing on this year before GM'ing next season.

I’m right there with you on being depressed about a bird team—in my case the Blue Jays. They didn’t extend Vlad Jr. before Spring Training and he will almost certainly go to free agency in the winter. The chances of getting a deal done before the start of the regular season now seem almost non-existent.

Up until now I’ve been mostly neutral about the Jays' front office. Many Jays fans are far more negative about them than I am. I try to be fair and balanced and give these guys the benefit of the doubt. Their track record is not perfect, but they've certainly made a few good moves. But to risk letting Vladdy walk over money, when the team has very rich ownership that can definitely afford to sign him, is nuts to me. Keep him around and keep the team relevant. Vlad keeps saying he wants to stay in Toronto. He may not be the #1 player in the league, but he is an extremely talented hitter and still very young. Pay the superstar tax and give him the bag. It will be an overpay, like all the other mega deals, but you’ve gotta do it to keep him around. They seem to be dead set on what their valuation of Vlad is, and they won't allow themselves to go beyond that to get the deal done. There are of course cautionary tales, like Prince Fielder, that would make a team hesitant to do the deal... They have to do it.

I'm officially the pathological optimist about the Mariners season now. The farm looks loaded, they didn't make any bone-headed trades, and they haven't signed any massively expensive free agent busts yet. All of Trader Jerry's moves so far have worked to build the farm system, but none of his trades for production have worked worth two pins. Not trading is sometimes the best policy. It's also something the Mariners haven't done yet. Trading hasn't worked, so let's try not trading for a change. Their first spring training game is tomorrow.
