Modulus Mob

Thanks Baird! That Q5S is sharp, too. I had to get used to EMG's. They seem to work well in mine. You'll really appreciate the neck in your climate. I don't have to worry about weather changes and humidity anymore. No more neck tweaks between indoor and outdoor gigs!

That rug really ties the room together!

LOL

BTW, how do you quote or reply without adding the pictures?

It may seem like a silly question, but do you have more than one bass and if so do they "fart" when plugged in? Just trying to eliminate the amp in the equation first.

Then try a different cable if it's not the amp.

If you've eliminated the amp and the cable, then it's time to diagnose the bass.

Check the jack, does it wiggle at all? If not, time to pop it open and look for any loose wires or connections that could be touching and grounding out such as the terminals on the jack against the walls of the control cavity. Also check the wires to make sure they're not cracked in any way.

After lots of searching for an M92 or Sweet Spot Quantum fretless, I picked up a 2 pickup Quantum fretless. Picture attached, which was taken by the prior owner.

This bass is way cool. If it is not inappropriate for me to mention, I would gladly trade this bass for an M92 if anyone has one, preferably fretless.

But for now, I have some Modulus tone in my life. And I love the light weight.

My Quantum 5 is still my dream bass and has been a workhorse for the last 10 years. This bass is incredible. Plays like a dream and I've only had it setup once in 10 years. The EMG's bit the dust about a year ago and I replaced them with Bart's. I think that the EMG's died, in part, because lightning struck right next to where I was rehearsing one night and a spark shot out of the pickup, into the strings, and into my finger. Unfortunately, I did not receive any special bass-playing powers or anything, but but the electronics kept on going for 4 more years.
I really like the Bart's, even though they are quite different than the EMG's. The Bart's are much smoother and not as aggressive in the mid's. I play worship music, so I like the smoothness. If I was playing rock in clubs, I would prefer the EMG's.
I use D'Addario XL's on it and they make it sing.

I'll post pic's soon.

So, as many of you know I have a 16 day old Modulus VJ. Yay happy new bass time!

Well, this morning whilst sitting down - the only reason I mention this is so that you know the bass was in playing position - I was fishing the cable through my left hand to get the plug off the floor so I could plug it into the amp and it decided to go all rawhide on me and did a little whip motion resulting in the tip of the plug hitting the neck on the side of the neck near the fret board. Oh no! You say...

My first thought was oops, but then thought it really didn't even hit it that hard... Wrong. Decided to have a look and yes, the first battle scar on a less than a month old bass.

Some may say, "don't worry about it, now it's got mojo." For me it's a personal thing, but I don't care for mojo. Especially on a stealthy blacked out bass, this really sticks out.

So I was wondering if any Mob members might have any constructive tips on how I might go about fixing this. I also contacted Anderson, but he's a busy guy so I don't expect a response any time soon.

The chip is about 5mm long by 3mm wide and only seems to have caused the clear "top coat" to chip off - less than a mm thick.

My first thought was to use cyanoacrylate to fill it in, but then wondered if the neck has a poly finish and didn't know if that would bound correctly.

Second thought was to use epoxy and then progressively wet sand it down using 800, 1200, 1600 and 2000 grit paper. Any thoughts on how to best repair this?
