Modulus Mob

I WD-40'd a couple of days ago and my fretboard did not melt! :D Phew!!!

It did a very good job of cleaning and restoring my board. It's the first time I've done this in 14 years so there's still some faint wear markings on the fretboard from my round wounds/stainless steel strings.

The WD-40 and a toothbrush approach works.

I'm beyond happy to say that I am returning to the Modulus Mob! How can I play Phish without a Q5 !? I paid a bit more than I wanted to for this guy, but if the seller was honest, the bass is like new. It's coming on Saturday!

As far as I know the Dunlops that are used now for Modulus instruments are made specifically for Modulus you can't get them from Dunlop yet, I have already checked into this, you would need to buy directly from Modulus.
As far as the gauges go I want to say:
.130-B
.105-E
.085-A
.065-D
.045-G
.035-C

But don't quote me on that, I will talk to Joe Perman tomorrow or Wed. his is finishing my 6 string TBX that will be shipped out next Mon. and I'll verify the string gauges, I'm pretty sure I'm correct but you never know.

Thanks man!

Cool Mike, my Q5 is hanging on my shoulder as I type.

I think we need a Masshole Modulus GTG for all us Mod'sters. What say you?

Anxious to hear your thougths on your new beauty.

I am psyched, new Genz Benz 2X12 cab due Friday in time for my 2 weekend gigs. I will have my Sienna Q5 to represent...

Yeah. I'm still thinking of changing the pups though but haven't gotten around to it. I might be fine just changing the preamp.

I remember always needing to blend the pickups towards the neck to get a fuller sound, it seemed a but quacky in the center. A higher output pre might do it, or even a filter preamp.

I would LOVE to host a small GTG at my house if other TB'ers would like to come! Modulus Mobsters get preference!

Pete, which GB 212 cab did you get? At one time I had the older style Neox 2 x 112 cab. They were great, but more like 15s to my ear. I am a cab whore, so they went. :)

Oh, and welcome back Martone! Don't leave us again....we don't take well to 2nd time traitors....;-)

I went through a jazz bass phase which took me away for a while, but I missed my Modulus dearly. I really don't think I'm leaving any time soon, I feel like I am about to come full circle with that phase. I still really dig my Lull M5 and I do not think I will ever sell it, but I definitely miss the soapbar tone coupled with the phenolic Modulus ZING!

Cool looking bass! Congratulations.:p

Thank you!

One question for Q5 owners: how much does yours weigh?

Also: Anyone ever seen the opaque silver Q5 and Q6 basses that Modulus made for Aguilar? There is one on CL and I was in touch with the owner. It wasn't in the best condition, so I passed, but it was DEFINITELY a rare Modulus. Really sweet color, too. Not too many Q5s or 6s in opaque colors around.

I know we " covered this a few pages back" and I'm sorry for bringing it back up but I did get a email from modulus in case anyone else was curious.

I tried to reach Joe using this email address [email protected] but the email bounces back. Anyone have a valid email address for him?

The generic support email address NEVER is responded to so I'd love to email Joe directly.

Wow, MarTONEbass, that is an absolutely beautiful Q5! Congrats. Honeyburst? What year, what pickups and electronics?
I have a 94 Q5 in Green-to-Blue that I am loving and just picked up a 94 Q4 in a similar finish to yours that should arrive in a couple of days. I will post pics when I get it as it has some unusual features.
I am curious about the Modulus-Aguilars that you mentioned...any pics or links?
