Modulus Mob

That pink one looks nice! I never thought a pink bass could look good... My flat black/satin black (what's the difference?) is getting its scuffs and scratches, but I especially hate this:

When I bought it, I wasn't aware of that matte finishes will end up looking like that, so I am thinking that it might be a mistake by me to choose that finish. However, it looks so badass with that finish!

Thanks man. I agree. At first I was like a pink bass, no. But really does look good. With the pearl pickguard it works well. I was really surprised. And it is super light. I weights 8lbs on the dot.

What the heck are you doing to it? I have three satin black finished basses, all done by Pat Wilkins who used to supply Modulus with their finishing materials, so I have the same finish theoretically as you do, same materials at least. None of my satin black basses (including my Flea) have gotten scuffed, shiny or show wear spots. It's one of the reasons I like the black satin finish, and also why I use matte black pickguards, it will take much more abuse than a black gloss finish without showing every little micro scratch.

Also, Pat said do not use any kind of guitar polish to "clean" a satin finish. If you have to clean it because of build up, use a lightly dampened paper towel to wipe it down and then lightly buff dry with a soft terry or micro-fiber cloth. Never use too much pressure or you will create sheen.

Personally, I just use a very soft micro-fiber cloth that Just Strings makes. It absorbs dirt, oils, sweat and grime almost instantly and can be tossed into the washing machine. Just make sure to hang dry if you use fabric softeners in the dryer.

I think Pink is the new Black.

Um, no. :D

Uhm, I have just been playing on it, lol.
I thought that this is very natural with matte finishes. I haven't used any polish at all. I once tried to use a little bit of soap, just a tiny little on a damp cloth, and I tried to see if it went off... It didn't.

Can you post a picture of your FU4 again? I remember the picture you posted a while back, but can you take a new one, so I can see how it looks today compared to a few months ago?

Don't have time, but it looks exactly the same.

I don't know what you were looking at, but here's the one I have posted before. It is a satin finish (aka matte).

And just for proof of that none of my other satin finishes have issues:

Apologies for the sojourn away from our normal programming with other brands fellow mobsters.

Thank you.

As I mentioned before, Pat Wilkins of Wilkins Guitars. Price depends on if you ship a stripped down body or not, you have to pay the shipping both ways, but it's around $300 or so for a stripped body.

I've had him do other non-satin finishes as well and he always does great work. Gloss costs a little more do to the extra steps/coats involved, but not much. Best bet is to contact him via the site or call and talk to him, he's a great guy and will work with you to get the finish you want. He even created a custom color for me on a bass I had, it was a hematite color with very specific requirements.

I should add he is the one who also refinished my Modulus neck from gloss to satin, and IMHO, it is better than the satin neck I had on my VJ I got direct from Modulus.

Yes, unfortunately he is ill-informed.

I started typing four times and every-time I started to I went back and deleted.

The only thing I'm going to say.

I think you guys should give the Jaquo comments a rest. Anyone looking to dig up his comments from a previous should look inside themselves first on why they are doing. To me it speaks volumes about that person.

Also Jaquo knows more about what is going on in the industry the %99.x of the folks on TB. He is a stand up guy as well as my friend. On a final note think beyond a black and white linear concept of what his comment was. If you cannot then you cannot.

As a said before we should appreciate Modulus for what they have supplied the bass playing community, instead of this public bash.

Nobody bashed him, though. I merely commented that, in this case, it was not correct.

No you didn't Angus, I agree...I have no issue with You.
You where just the last thread post on him. However if look at what I wrote some of it correlates.

Someone from your club should check in with Jaquo. He seems to know that Modulus are still in business.

And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

:)

Basswave, kat's look for negative bs to stir up about nothing on tb. Any body on tb can talk trash all day long but if they pay attention to what I've said, they will see that I haven't been wrong yet.

Most kat's on tb can't respectfully disagree so they do what they do best, talk trash while most hiding behind screen names.
