Modulus Mob

Because Modulus in the early days made custom order basses, there could be many many unknown versions out there. Not to mention all the Alembic/Modulus, Status and on and on basses made by Modulus for others. Plus the Modulus basses themselves were all over the place with different models under different names. From Quantums, TBX's, M92's and more

I believe it sold for 1750...thats impressive since it was a bartolini FU4 (the green isnt really appealing either)
...its funny because last year or two years ago bartolini fitted Modulus basses did get much in resale

im sure glad i got the SD/lanepoor aguilar combo for the price i did before the factory closing

Cool man. But how was that green bass you're talking about? What was the specs, which year did it come from...?

Im also curious as to what happens with all the parts and stock if
Modulus does indeed close shop.

I remember someone on a thread saying it would be cool if TBers
all pitched and bought the company...i wouldnt mind having a stock
of graphite necks in my closet ha

I don't think there was any stock....people were waiting months for VJ necks, etc. They were making them as they went.

I had my eye on that too :(:( wasnt bidding since I cant swing the dough but I want that bass soo soo bad. I got to play a silver one like 5 years ago and to this day I yearn for one. One of the most comfortable and best sounding basses I've ever played. With the apparent shut down, I wish I had bought it instead of my '75 4001 :(

Can anyone tell me what a very early TBX would look like and how could I tell it from any other Mod? I know that the TBX were neck thru, but how else would someone tell what they are

Looking at the back and lack of neck bolts?

So, what would the model designation for my 1991 neck through 6 string be? I remember getting a Modulus catalog ca. 1988 that seemed to have the TBX designation in it.

Can't help you with 1991 but I just dug out the receipt for my Quantum 5 which I bought on 4/20/88 at Hackensack Music in New Jersey... just says Modulus five string. Pretty sure the neck-thoughs were still referred to as Quantum basses in 1988 the TBX designation came later. Did they even make bolt-on necks in 1988? I never saw one until later.

Great bass but I sure wish the neck wasn't so narrow. Geoff Gould told me years ago to never sell it and I have no intention to...

Sorry for the poorly phrased question... I have also seen pre-88 bolt on Modulus basses but thought a lot of the early basses were one-offs. By the early 90s they seemed to have "formalized" the product line and added model designations... TBX etc as noted in one of the posts above. I always was under the (probably wrong) impression that the bolt-ons didn't officially become part of product line until the early 90s and were made more readily available at that time so that buyers had a cheaper option to the neck-through models.

You'll have to give Modulus a call..but last I heard the phones and email were disconnected. Give it a try though.

I hope all is good for them I don't know them but....their instruments are absolutely brilliant. Every time I've been in front of one I'm taken by them. The detai, warm and thick, with unusually natural mids and pleasant, natural highs.
