Modulus Mob

A quick setup and I got it in decent shape, so I am now the proud owner of a Q5! :D

Took a few pics...

Looks like someone scratched an 'L' into the front & back, and they really scratched up the finish between the pickup and bridge:

The tuners are pretty worn, so I will have to replace those soon - any recommendations?

All in all not too bad for the money, pretty happy with it. A little work and it'll be a great bass!

SOB that is most certainly the find of the decade!!

Thanks man. Were they "sticky" like DR Black Beauties? The BBs we're not to my liking on my Roscoe Century Standard, as my fingers would stick to the strings.

Appreciate your speedy reply, I am looking to sound mwah-some!

Absolutely not sticky like the DR's - didn't like those either. The tapewounds are nice and smooth. And they really bring the mwah and a have nice warm richness.

No worries, glad to help.

The finish is indeed pink over blue, someone kindly scratched it up so I could check :)

I spoke to Pat Wilkins about refinishing it, but I'm gonna leave it for a while to see if it grows on me, as I like the finish a lot.

I bet no one notices while you're playing it, you included!

Have a lot of fun with it, looks like a classic, awesome, Modulus.

As most of you guys know, I own 3 Modulus basses but no Genesis models and have never played one. Besides the obvious difference in fingerboards, what are the main differences? Pros / Cons?

And NO Sleepy, I am not looking to buy another Modulus.....

...not until Summer maybe (:hiding:)

:D

I've never owned a quantum, but I a/b'ed when I bought my genesis. The genesis is a little less modern sounding because, I assume, the neck is 2/3s wood. A little more earthy. Perhaps I lack the proper vocabulary to describe it. Just seemed more natural to me which I prefer because of the range of music I have to play. The quantum I tried seemed move steinberger-like to me if that makes sense.

I actually think that's a very good description. Now, there's a variety of woods for the Genesises, and mine was a Bart JJ (not sure which model) with a 3 band Bart EQ, flame maple top, maple fingerboard and I believe an alder body and alder neck (Also had 19mm spacing) Here

It was not a bright bass, although I only had DR Lo Riders on it, which are not bright strings. But it had an excellent B string, the harmonics rang out well, and the neck was great. I didn't like the size of the body though (it's an oversized J), as I wear my basses up kind of high, so I foolishly traded it away.

It's a different beast than my Q5, that's for sure. When finances permit, I'll get it (or a similar one) back. I used it a few times with a rock band I was trying out for (didn't work out, but not because of the tone). They can be had for around $1200 on here, which I think is a smoking deal, as they are quality made instruments. :bassist:

I've been using EB Cobalts on my FU4 for some time and decided I wanted a to try something different with less tension. Put on a balanced set of Kalium Strings (Circle K). All I can say is wow! Great tone, the zing I love, nice smooth feel (for rounds) and the neck seems to be even more playable. Now if they just made them in black :D

Ive been hearing more and more about Circle K's.
Ive been using Boomers and such on my Flea but now im between Circle Ks and DR Sunbeams for my next set....
....which would you prefer
