Modulus Mob

I found a few articles that mentioned Modulus in passing. Notably, about the CEO, Michael Klein. He appears to be a tech entrepreneur. And I get the sense that Bobby Weir may have bought the rights to the Modulus Guitars name and he has Klein running the company for him. But that's all supposition. The only articles I can find that mention Michael Klein pertain to his REALLY expensive home in San Francisco. I've found NOTHING about the status of Modulus in some fairly exhaustive searches.

It's not unheard of for members of the Dead to get into this sort of business venture. Alembic was started to supply Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh with instruments way back when. And Bobby has a history of playing Modulus guitars himself. So maybe he just wants to make sure that he still has a company that will make guitars that he likes to play?

For those of you who have experience with carbon necks and other high end instruments; Do you think there is another neck/fingerboard material that could would allow a similar tone to carbon neck? (i.e maple neck/ebony board, wedge neck, ebony board)

Thanks for your help

Carbon necks vary: a modulus neck sounds and feels different from a Moses. That said, the "standard" Modulus neck--carbon fibre neck, phenolic fingerboard--has a very distinctive sound and feel. I've got a Bassstar, and have had basses with ebony, maple and rosewood boards, and maple necks.

Though of course you can get a very bright sound from another bass, it'll just be different.
