Modulus Mob

Sexy Beast fo sho!

One thing I found intriguing about that Facebook post was that they pointed out this Quantum-5 TBX had a 34" scale length and 26 frets...which suggests that they are somewhat tooled up to do custom instruments again.

(presuming by "brand spanking new" they really mean this is a brand spanking new bass and not something Modulus built for Mike just before they went under/restructured.)

Wouldn't the 34" scale just be a different template for when they fretted the bass (i.e. cramming 34" worth of frets into 35")?

I suppose...though even that suggests a level of customization that I wasn't sure they were offering.

Maybe this means I can finally get a TBX without the stupid logo at the body end of the neck!

No, the scale length of an instrument is determined by the distance between the nut and the bridge saddles, which means that yes they have to reconfigure the proportional distance between frets but also they have to set the bridge in a different position. All things considered that's a pretty big difference in construction, definitely not something most companies offer.

Though the same person is building it. JP is the madness behind Modulus. The custom (JP bass, not Modulus) bass that he did for Oteil was crazy awesome. I spoke to him right when he was beginning to build the new Gordo bass....and I had the chance to order the same walnut top cut from the same piece of wood....looking back on it I should have but I don't really play anymore so having a brand new Modulus wasn't in the cards. The guy is a genius when it comes to building these basses and a ton of fun to speak to. Looks like he is doing it right this go 'round. I am glad that the store is back up and running...the new case looks great as well as the new Modulus mono bag!!

The new Gordo bass looks intense.
