Modulus Mob

Hi,

I picked up a Q5 fretless Lined Walnut 00’s (Neck Phenolic) recently.
I would have to ask some questions about cleaning the fingersboard phenolic :
  • On Quantum FL (phenolic neck), some put Roundwound instead of Flatwound (as usual), to keep from slamming etc. And as this marks strongly the fingerboard, they make it cleaning every 2 years.
  • Is it possible to clean the fingerboard in phenolic so good ??? How ???
  • Currently, the bass is fitted with Roundwounds and already slight traces appear.
  • Cleaning is one thing, but the furrows that bothers me... We can recover this? If so, how ?

Thank you in advance for your return.
Best regards,

Nice score, but pics or it doesn't exist especially since I am totally gasing for a Q5 fretless... Flats for sure. Get that to a luthier to remove the indents that the rounds put in there.
You could use super fine 3000 grit paper to cut the really high edges, but I am sure a luthier would know more to remove those on your board..
Man, I so want one of these

Best regards,
You will drive yourself crazy if you try to keep the fingerboard from getting scuffed. That's just what happens with fretless basses. Scuffs can't be avoided, they will always happen, but they aren't a bad thing, and they won't affect how the instrument plays.

Traces of the strings are not the same as actual grooves in the fingerboard. If you just want to clean the fingerboard from dirt or grime, use a little WD-40, it works like a charm. But as for removing scuffs, it just isn't necessary and it will require you to take sand paper to your neck more often than you probably should. Just learn to live with the light scuffing, it happens no matter what strings you use.

Btw I didn't know you had a vj4 fretless, mine posting a pic of it?
I'm the only one I know, besides you, who has one. Love it.
Sure thing Ballin': I bought it used from a buddy and Moddy / Lull guy (Basswave). He put in a Audre' pre- amp (Meh on that.....).
