Yes, Q4s are the rarest of the bunch. Fretless Q4s are practically unicorns.

I had a VJ fretless that I ended up selling because I couldn't justify owning such a beast of a fretless. But it had a very clean, controlled sound. I imagine the Quantums sound similar but with different pickups.

Wow, always good to hear from someone from my neck of the woods! My parents live out in Jefferson, not far from Fort Atkinson. I used to go to quite a few shows on E Johnson, so I may have been there. Remember the house number?

Also, pics to come later of my new Moddy!!! I want to thank @GoatBass for the great deal on a pretty bass. Bass looks nicer than the pics even and is totally a players dream. Been messing around since I got home and it's super comfy for a 5. Slight fatigue as it's been over 10 years since I've had a 35" scale and more than 4 strings.

The B string is lovely, nice and focused, and I may just leave it with a B (alwaus dug the high C more) but the clarity on the B is niiiiice. I'm going to love this. Currently strung with flats even... wow. I may just leave them but I feel like Nickel rounds would punch holes.

More thoughts to come after pics at some point hopefully tonight, like I said it's real pretty and the burst is nicer than pics show. I'll try, it's way overcast here so we'll see.

What gauge strings do you all like on your Q5's?

As stated, been awhile since I've been on a 35" scale. I'm thinking .125 area for the B. Would like to be a little on the light side and balanced tension sets are even better. But what are you all using?

im using dunlop superbrights (medium, nickel) currently and they are pretty good. I do wanna give some Lo Riders a spin so soon.

Also, I just picked up an Eden WT300 and OMGOMGOMGOMG my modulus just sings through it. You know when you start neglecting real life to just constantly play bass....yeah im doing that.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm slowly but surely revamping my rig, I want something portable and punchy and somthing I can extrapolate. Baer ML112 or ML115 has been calling my name. I believe they'd sing, punch and growl with the moddy.

Right now my moddy is strung with Chrome flats and I really like em. The B is really nice, like really nice. My qualm with starts with the E and gets more so as the tension climbs as you go higher.

Anything out there that is more balanced?

First off, you want rounds, not flats, on a Modulus. That is mine and many others opinion. Secondly, if you want perfect tension and response across all strings, I repeat: DR

DR lo-riders if I'm to say my favorite. Second favorite is the fat beams.

Mine's a 6-string but anyway...
I started out using a .125 low B and found it gained a bit more pitch stability and balanced out tension-wise with the rest of the set when I changed that to a .130. So for the past ~20 years or so I've been using

I suppose what I want is subjective, I love rounds don't get me wrong, but I've taken a liking to flats recently and Modulus came with a 5 string set of Chromes. Been playing a lot of fretless lately and I will say the Chromes do sound great, the A and higher strings are far too tight on the 35" scale, the B and E are fine though.

I'm really not a fan of stainless steel strings and prefer nickel wound, but I will say the last 2 packs of Lo-riders I did like (sounded great on the Bongo)!!! and have yet yo try fat beams... I see DR makes Nickel lo-riders... I may have to give them a shot.

I guess I want to keep a similar tension to my 34" scale basses. Probably have to drop to a lighter gauge, all I know is I generally don't like high tension.

Thanks for the heads up.

I tend to like no more than .105 for my E w/ 34" scale so I may try something in the .100 .80 .60 .40 and a .125 or .130 B.

I have homework to do! Haha. No longer a strings thread, pics of the new moddy within an hr :)

The finish is way nicer than the pics, crappy light yellow lights, super overcast and all sorts of gray and tan around the house. I'll take some clean shots when I get a chance, I can't put her down... so she stays smudged for now. The burst is really really nice in person.

P.s. yes we still keep vhs out on my house lol. We embrace all physical forma of media over here :)
