I don't have exact figures to support this statement, but suffice it to say that, for every ONE person that actually has a genetic disorder which causes thier obesity, there's hundreds, no THOUSANDS, who are the source of thier own problems.
To those of you who've lost alot of weight, congratulations. Not only have you done it, you serve as a role model for those who're too emotionally weak to do it for themselves.
Morbid Obesity is a HUGE problem, to which I attribute a number of things, as the cause.
1) Cable TV, & our national obsession w/ the mindless. This trains your body to be immobile, thus reducing your activity level & increasing your muchie potential.
2) Current state of "What's ok to eat". The fast food industry is literally killing our country. That, in combination w/ places like "Hometown Buffet", give people are reason, nay, a MOTIVE to eat far more than they should.
3) Political Correctness gone amok. In the US, its now inappropriate to even tell the truth. We're far too concerned about peoples FEELLINGS, & not NEARLY as concerned as we should be about thier realities. Addictive people lie about thier addictions. ALL of them do, no matter the addiction.
Those addicted to food, are no different. Ask a direct question, & you'll be called an *******.
4) Skyrocketing medical insurance costs. IMHO, these increases are largely because of the increasing fat quotient here in America. I know I've told the story of a guy I know,
who fits the classic mold of an addictive eater. If you recall, he has undergone reconstructive knee surgery, because of his girth. Who pays for it? The subscriber pays a small part, but the biggest chunk is paid by the insurance companies, & in turn, rate hikes to everyone else who has health insurance.
