If i continue my current lifestyle i will never, ever get to weigh 1/2 a ton. I can guarantee that.

Also, if i continue my current lifestyle, ive already done all my weight gain.

Oddly enough, this guy is losing weight. One day, he may no longer be fat.

You, on the other hand, have a lot more work to do simply being a decent human being.

Ah, to be perfect.... :rollno:

Is this really about fault? Or is it about having empathy and being a decent human being to everyone, even people whose lifestyle circumstances are so radically different from one's own?

i thought it was about someone making a fool of himself with his ignorant sanctimony, and drawing other fools into the light.

threads like this are useful for me, at least - helps herd all the "certain" types of folks in one place, so i know who to ignore in other threads. you know, the ones who feel predisposed to insult and denegrate other people in an attempt to ... what? feel better about themselves? :)

Ignorance abounds! Threads like this remind me of why I am no longer very active here at TalkBass. For what it's worth, I'd rather be fat than ignorant.

considering the overwhelming reaction to the subject material and the thread poster, i would think this thread would be heartening in the extreme.

only when ignorance is exposed and dealt with can the real fiber of a community be known. :)

Ah call me what you want i dont care. Arrogant / Youthful / ignorant.

I know what I think, and just accept it, I'm right.

This guy was totally irresponsible with his body, and as such disadvantages the rest of society.

I dont see why he's been made a "media darling" because he abused his body.

If he was thin because he was a crack addict y'all wouldnt be saying the same.

Also, who changed the title of my thread, please?

Hmm, is this in reference to my statements?

John may have said youth... I'll call it arrogance.

Don’t make me list what I consume everyday. I will not change weight, fact. However, this is beside the point – and is off topic, keep to the original focus of my thread please.

How do you feel it puts everyone else at a disadvantage?

It puts your medical system at a disadvantage. Someone has to pay those 8 doctors that are thinning this self-inflicted fool down, and who is going to foot his bill? Also, whilst they’re treating this fatass, they are expending less time with patients with real problems.

PS, I also find it amusing you are so critical of "images" when your own you brag about is the current flavor of the week.

That’s right Tim, emo boy doesn’t know a thing, hey? Lets just kill of his argument on the basis of his image. Good one.

I didn’t say it was socially unacceptable for him to be fat society should always be tolerant. The point that I was really trying to make was that he is being praised for selfishly draining the resources of said society.

On a side note, I don’t mean to offend you if you feel overweight, you don’t weigh over half a tonne, and by your own admission are a useful, upstanding, hard working, clean living member of society.

Toasted, you pissed me off. And that's usually hard to do. Next time you look at a big guy and feel all smug and superior because you are young enough to still have a fast metabolism, just think that a fat old dude like me could probably snap you like a twig. And then the guy that comes to save your life afterward, might be another fat old dude like me.

Uhm, I seem to have touched a nerve, so ill ask you who the problem belongs to. I don’t feel smug and superior when I see someone morbidly obese. You assume.

I don’t have a fast metabolism, its actually unusually slow. I control what I eat otherwise I almost uncontrollably gain weight.

This does not detract from the fact that the guy was irresponsible to get that fat.

Intelligence has nothing to do with it....

I did not mean that he's mentally deficient because he allowed himself to end up weighing over a ton. I meant that it seems uncaring on account of both himself and those that know him to allow him to end up being so large he cannot roll over in bed.

john turner said:
you're missing the point. anyone, ANYONE, who thinks that they are immune to having potentially self-distructive things happen to them by mistakes that they themselves make is totally naive.

I agree with you john.

Guess I'm a lazy, stupid fat ass for being "stout." Who'da thought?

To all the people who have made posts like this one of Brendan’s:

You’re just polarising my point. I said it seemed a little, shall we say careless, to weighing more than a small car.

I have no bone to pick with anyone who is rotund. Most of my family is, like I said, we all have slow metabolisms; I just watch what I eat very closely to keep my weight in check. Hell, my girl is a good foot shorter than me and weighs 30% more than I do.

If you’re comfortable with yourself, I’m comfortable with you.

Care to expend on why I’m not a “decent human being”? I’ll file you in with the “haha, emo jokes” crowd, whilst I wait with baited breath for your reply.

welcome to my "ignore user" list.

also who changed the title of my thread, please?

I can believe that the guy got so large, and that he has a set of problems that caused it. But it seems strange to me that nothing was done until he weighed so much. His wife seems to care much about him. I know it can be hard to find help and all, but I would imagine that at around, say, 700 pounds, she'd start to see that he was only gaining weight, and begin seeking help. I'm not sure- never been in that situation.

At least the guy is losing weight now.

Ok, if you insist. You're Arrogant / Youthful / ignorant.

You never know, the rest of us might decide to be irresponsibly violent with your body.

;)

And never say never toasted, when I was 19 like you I was on a promess to myself that I'd never pick a cigarrette again in my life. Guess what, **it happens and by 21 I was smoking a pack a day, you just never know what lies ahead no matter how you try to control your life :scowl:

Probably because Medicare just last month recognized obesity as a medical condition. Before that, you couldn't get insurance help to defray the costs of this surgery.
