Most annoying instrument (to your ears)?

I'll second the Cher - if she were an instrument. And hail from Cape Breton - second land of Pipes and Gaelic!Cher - she's the most annoying thing I've ever heard. (Hmmm... but can she be classed as an instrument?)
If not Cher, then violin. Played badly.

Love the bagpipe complaints, and I agree with the feeling about the Highland pipes. I play Uilleann pipes, which are the sitting down ones; much more pleasing to the ear. BTW, much of the pipe music in Braveheart was Uilleann pipes, but they showed the silhouette of someone playing the stand-up pipes.
I would say the instrument I like the least is the accordion, but it actually sounds its best as it hits the banjos and hammered dulcimers on its way to the bottom of the dumpster.

As a GHB (Great Highland Bagpipe) player, I was just starting out learning them when Braveheart came out and was baffled watching the movie the first time, I'm hearing uilleann pipes but seeing GHB. Did some research after to find it was Eric Rigler providing the uilleann pipes for the soundtrack, also a very good GHB piper as well. I believe he also provided uilleann pipes for the Titanic soundtrack as well. My hats off to you with uilleann pipes, I don't think I'm coordinated enough to handle the bellows and the pipe bag as well.
I've been asked on more than one occasion what instruments I play and when I tell them Bass in a Heavy Metal band and the bagpipes almost always the immediate reaction is something like "That's a stretch!" to which I'll reply, not really, they're both loud and annoy a lot of people!

But the absolute worst sound on earth comes out of the business end of the mighty......kazoo. When the commies finally take over, they can ban the kazoo for all I care.
Other than that, I'm good.

Although the tone can vary I think the Farfisa organ seems to upset my ears the most when I hear it. Probably the best example of it's worst possible tone is in the lesser known Beatles tune called The Word. Great song but when the organ comes in I just want to machine gun it! 
Blues Traveller harmonica in that song that was big in the 90s. It had the video with some skinny guy singing even though the real singer and harmonica player in the band was heavier. I don't dislike harmonica...but there's just something about how it sounds in that song (and presumably other Blues Traveler songs) that really annoys me.

Oh darn. My GF is a classical composer and violist, and will be heartbroken to learn of this. See, she's from Eden, NY, the world, headquarters for kazoo production, and thought it was a beautiful, melodious axe.

Bagpipes are sweet and I hate the oboe and alto sax. Reminds me of Kenny G. He is Satan's tool on earth

Electric bass, GHB, and trumpet here. All the haters are just mad that their girlfriends like to ask us what's under our kilt. "Your lipstick, later tonight."
