Most UNDERRATED bands?

I have heard this from many of people, I'm not bashing but I just don't understand why.
I guess it's the era you lived through that makes this decision most.
Umm, one of these days.............say 2049, you'll be on TalkBass and someone will have a thread about underrated bands (from Canada?) and you'll make a comment and some kid born in 2030 will be totally clueless.

I agree that the early Simple Minds stuff is where it's at. But I don't think Once Upon a Time is that overrated. It's their stab at the heightened 80's new-wavey commercial phenomenon. lol. That said, I still find that album tolerable today.
Tolerable, maybe. Ghostdancing is the stand out track, while most others on the album suffered of being over produced and over emphasized with Robin Clark's soulful background if not foreground vocals.

Speaking of underrated bands, I'd have to throw Swans, Talk Talk, Katatonia, and Anthrax into the mix.

10cc, nice blast from the past. Yes, they were choice, same as the Flying Burrito Brothers, Shocking Blue and J. Geils mentioned above. I would rate an 8 track of Shocking Blue to be the crown jewel of flea market finds.

Adding three favorites of mine who, if not actually underrated, simply suffer from lack of wide exposure: Steeleye Span (Maddy Prior is one of the great vocalists!), Ash Ra Tempel, and Gong. Gong est Mort, Vive Gong!

Kings X - Musicians recognize their collective bad-assitude but mainstream media have always been oblivious to them.

Riverside - Being a prog nut I was overjoyed to have found them. I don't know why it took so long or why I continue to not hear about them much. Piotrs passing was a sad thing.

Awesome thread and a ton of fantastic replies. I'm definitely in the same boat saying these bands a very underrated. Love me some Stereophonics, Canned heat, and Squeeze! Oh and the Hip! Those guys are killer.

Whoever brought up the desert/stoner scene I agree completely, hell that's probably my favorite music besides the rock from the 60s-70s. Thumbs up to Clutch, not a big fan, but it is good music.

Some that are very underrated to me are All them witches, Wolfmother, Graveyard, Supersystem, Hawkwind, Head East, Suicide Machines, The Muggs, to name a few. Ohhh and by far the most underrated band ever IMO is Truckfighters.
