MTD pricing question

So when I go to the MTD website and build/fantasize my dream bass in my head, it's about $7,000 according to their price list. But when I go to the Bass Central website, they have similar basses for sale, brand new, for $4,800 or so (and it says "Retail: $6,600", for example). How does that work? Does Bass Central get a lower price because of how many they order?

I love Michael Tobias built basses but if I was in the market, I would buy used. You can save a lot of money, they are readily available and even if you had to change out the pickups and/or preamp, you come out ahead. IMHO etc.

I get that, as far as Bass Central pricing goes, but if I order a bass that comes out to $7,000 on the MTD price list, am I paying that $7,000 list price or do I get a "street price" that's lower?

You'll get the street price. No MTD should cost you $7,000 before tax (especially if you're not looking at Stockton or AG models). Those "sale" prices on Bass Central just make it look as if you're getting an incredible deal. +1 to buying used, unless you are able to play the bass before buying and you know exactly what you are getting sound-wise.
