It's the same 2 band electronics EB has always been using, so it shouldn't sound any different.
The major playability difference should be in the rounder radius neck. And likewise, I feel a finished neck will give a slightly different attack vs an oiled neck. I favor my vintage Ray necks over my newer ones because of both features.

As far as the mutes...of all the old StingRays I've had, the foam material is inconsistant. Sometimes the pads come out thick, sometimes they come out thin, some more dense, some less. I'm sure you'll probably find another Classic that will adjust lower like you want.

I really dug the overall vibe of the new classics. I like the headstock decal and 2-band. I need to take some time and set one up before I decide. But an all white with maple may be on my list of things to snag this year.

As mentioned in a previous post in another thread, I ordered a new Stingray 5, but it was defected upon delivery. When I informed Musicians Friend, the company sent me a replace Stingray 5 via overnight delivery for free to ensure that I would receive it before the Christmas day. The replacement bass arrived today.

Actually, the replacement Stingray 5 sounds so much better than the previous Stingray 5 I had received (duh, it was defected). I am very excited to be able to play the new bass during my holiday season vacation from work.

Sign me up for the club!!!

Most likely built in 2005. Other than that the EBMM basses are built with different features. Most likely yours is a 4-string (?), ash body, Maple or rosewood fingerboard, 3-band.
