Can I get a #? I just got my Stingray today and I must say, its probably the highest quality bass for the price...

I didn't have to do anything, its perfect from the box.

The day this bass is stolen or gets damaged is the first day I will cry over a bass...

Nice. Had this one in my grips for a short period. Sold it. Didn't want anyone to see me cry. Lol

Funny - back in 2002 when I ordered my Stingray 5 from Musician's Friend (black with black pickguard and maple fretboard), the bass in post 581 is exactly what they sent me instead. That was fun. Thankfully I didn't have to wait for them to get that one back before the shipped me the correct one.

Not sure exactly. My '93 SR5 doesn't have the phantom coil, but my '98 does. Flick your switch to the middle position (single coil mode) and if it buzzes, it doesn't have the phantom coil.

Thanks small! I guess I don't have it then. I was asking because all switch positions are a bit noisy. Can this be reduced by shielding?

I have another potential problem. If I knock on the pickups or bass some of the sound comes through the amp. I assume this is not normal and the pickup is a little microphonic. Can anyone confirm whether or not I am crazy? :D

Are they all noisy when you're touching the strings?

Doesn't seem to make any difference. All positions are a bit hissy/hummy.

I found a post in the MM forum where someone with a '94 had a phantom coil epoxy issue that was resulting is some microphonics and noise. I'm going to take the pickup apart this weekend to see if I have the same thing.

Either way the SR5 is a joy to play. It's almost like the feel of the neck is plush. Soft with just the right amount of tension, lowish action, and minimal fret buzz.
