Okay, just posted these clips in another thread where someone asked about needing a different sound... figured I'd post them here as well, in case someone wanders into this thread looking for info. It IS a thread about Stingrays after all. :)

I have a EBMM Stingray 5 with ash body and maple neck/fretboard. It's an HH with a 5-position coil selector switch. I went with the HH for the added versatility... Stingray sound with an additional pickup. The back pickup is in same location as the single H Stingrays and is "more of a traditional Stingray sound." My personal favorite is with the switch in the middle, which is all 4 coils on. Trebley and ballsy with a slight scoop in the mids, IMO. Sounds FANTASTIC through my live rig (Shuttle 6.0 into Avatar 2x10 and 2x12) with the volume up! :D :bassist:

Nice chops!!! I've considered getting an HH. I know they can do the single H parallel, but I really dig being able to put it in series especially in dense mixes.

Maybe I'll go Sterling HH for a change up. :p:ninja:

Thanks man! I appreciate the props.

I played a Sterling 4 at a Colorado GTG and from what I remember, it didn't sound TOO different from the Stingrays. I definitely liked it!

Hey Ross, great clips! Thank you for doing that and posting it here.

Do you recall what your EQ settings were? Also what strings you are using and are they old or new?

Thanks man! :bassist:

I've had those strings on my Stingray for about a month... I picked up my Stingray over President's Day weekend and had them put on a set of D'Addario EXL170-5's. Since I got it, I've played it for some studio work, church choir, a jam or two and practicing in my apartment, so they're still pretty new. I'm also pretty diligent about wiping down my strings pretty well after every time I play... not sure if it actually helps, but it's a habit I picked up from the guy who initially got me into playing bass. (sidenote: he had a REALLY nice Warwick Dolphin. I didn't have a clue what I was playing at the time, but I've wanted one ever since. lol)

I had the EQ on my Stingray set flat for all clips and I recorded straight into my computer via a Line6 Toneport UX1 (now called the POD Studio). I run a little compression and output gain in the PodFarm software, but that's about it. What you're hearing in those clips is straight up Stingray! :)

5sg., thank you for the breakdown. My SH-SR5 had some unknown strings on it when I got it. They were in a very bad way so I changed them out for DR Fat Beams. Somewhere I had read that the Fat Beams work well with the ash/maple config. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome although it seems a bit on the bright side but with plenty of note clarity. The strings made the B-string alot more clear in the lower registers. Now this is going through a Mesa M6 into a Bergantino AE410. And that particular rig is know to be a bit on the bright side.

I'm thinking that I should do some string experimenting soon. I'll add the D'add XL's to the list to try as they are fairly cheap. I also want to try the Slinkys too.

Luke, that red is one of my favorite Stingray colors!

Joe, like Brocco said, keep your wife too! :D lol

can i have a number. dont have pics but i do have one.

its probably the most standard one: black, black pickgaurd, maple finger board.

Bass, you're pretty new to Talkbass, so I'll pass along a couple tips:
1) There's an unwritten rule around Talkbass... no pics, no proof! ;) Even if it's a crappy cell phone pic, that's better than no pic! There's quite a few photo hosting sites out there, I use Photobucket.com. Great easy way to share pics with us skeptics! :ninja: :D

2) Talkbass is horrible for a thing called G.A.S. "Gear Acquisition Syndrome." Just surfing around TB will make your wallet weep because you'll see all sorts of super cool stuff you didn't know about. Because of TB, I've jumped into the world of single effects in a huge (and expensive :bawl: lol) way, completely overhauled my amp setup and bought a custom 6-string. :rollno: lol Good luck to you! hehehe
