Must have bass pedals? Go!

Come on man, you don't want to say they kinda stuff around here.

OP is looking for some advice, and your post is anything but

Its like saying "I want to play the bass" and someone saying " play the drums instead, the bass sucks"
I've just been reporting them. Maybe if we all report them and few get banned, it will stop. IMHO if someone asks what pedals to use to expand their sound and you answer use your fingers, that's trolling.

Q - Hey should I take a train, plane or bus across the country?
A - Walk, it's more natural.

See how stupid?

Tuner with mute is a critical tool but it can't fairly be considered an effect.

The pedals I step on most frequently are the Muff clone and the super warbly DOD stereo chorus. Then the envelope filter and the OC-2 octaver. I also use a Deep Impact synth when the song calls for it.

Am I the only guy around who uses a headstock tuner?

Nope. :)

I just hope you don't leave it clipped on when you're playing on stage. That just looks hokey to me for some reason. Maybe because it conjures up an immediate image of "high school jazz band" to me. By all means use one. Just take it off and stash it somewhere before you start playing, I beg you. ;)

Plus a good DI. My J48 is under the pedalboard. The looper is not necessary.

I'm not cool enough to know that, so thanks for the tip. :-)

I use one for rehearsal, but have found when playing live a headstock tuner will be deemed useless by loud music (which is often playing right before we start). So i bring a Boss tuner pedal as well, and/or a Fender ST-1.

I'm looking to expand my sound. What pedals do you absolutely love or think everyone should have?

There are two different questions there. As for which pedals I think are the most utilitarian I think people have hit on the biggies - tuner, overdrive, compressor and preamp. An OD particularly fits in almost any style.

As for the second question - which pedals do I love? Personally I love octavers, fuzzes, filters, phasers and delays.

I spent about an hour this morning fooling around with an Iron Ether Subterranea and Xerograph along with my TC Nova Repeater. My background is largely in funk and hip-hop and I love making synthy sounds.

i'm really not much of an effects user but if i needed them for a band i was in i'd look long and hard at the new tone print stuff from TC Electronics. with a few of their pedals you can basically have the sound like anyone that ever recorded a song on bass. i have a Boss ME-50B and it collects dust because to me it is too difficult to get in and out of patches. with a stomp box you push one button. I know a lot of guys who are very happy with the multi effects boards but when you can have hundreds of tones a few seconds away why bother with the learning curve for a multi effects board? and when i see a dozen stomp boxes wired together usually all i can hear is hiss and crackles. built in effects on an amp or bass are too gimicky to me. also, i run a wireless set up so i don't like having to run a wire from my amp, to the floor and back to my wireless. so, i choose to run no effects 99.9% of the time. i use a clip on tuner and the DI on my heritage sounds so sweet i wouldn't dare run a DI box.

I'm not cool enough either. (I've been called a lot of things over the years. But "cool" was never one of them. :roflmao:) Still, I just think it looks bad. I was at a HS performance by invitation of one of my godchildren a few weeks ago - and virtually every kid in every ensemble in that school had a tuner clipped onto whatever they were playing if you could get a tuner for it. (And apparently you can get one for almost anything.)

Yeah. I hear you. I broke down and finally got a TC Polytune to replace my ageing Boss chromatic pedal. I needed a display big and bright enough that I could still read it. I also have an inexpensive Fender ST-1 tucked away in almost every gig bag I own.
