My experience with bassstringsonline.com part 2!

Though I'm sure you can understand my suspicions (I.e. Holy blank thants a big thread for strings!). Though I guess that most of these posts are hyperenthusiastic because they want to be sure to get the discount.

Midfour, from your profile I can tell you not the most active of TBer's. As you hang here a little, you get to know who is for real and who is not.

In most situations in life, listening and studying to find out what is going on is usually a great place to start before voicing suspicions or hunches or accusation based on nothing. Sometimes it is just a better course to follow.FWIW.

Let me help with my experience of dealing with Jason and BassStringsonLine.com.

Knowledge
The first thing is that this guy knows about strings. Need help, need suggestions, want to know if a certain set will fit on your odd sized bass.... Jay knows and he will save you time and aggravation.

Price
Prices on most stuff is right on the money, with a VIP discount really right on the money! He is not the cheapest on everything... but very competitive on everything... if price is your concern you will do very well on most things without taking into account the value of knowledge and service.

Value
Jason will look over your order and see if there are ways he can save you money. He has for me on at least 2 occasions. He actually sent me an email telling me that he reconfigured my order to get the same products and at a better price. Totally above and beyond what he is required to do as a retailer. Most would have left the order as is and made the extra 8%

Apparently, the concept of "do good - do well" is valid. For all the extra stuff this guy does, he is re-paid by scores of favorable posts by true fans.... Not because they want their discount.

When your customers become your fans that is great advertising.

I've added my positive experience here already but on the surface, I'm sure the thread can seem like an "ad", but its just honest to goodness positive feedback on a great, privately owned small business. Anyone who purchases from BSO can be assured of the highest level of service that can be found in retail. Try calling MF without a silly product number and just ask for the strings you want. Unless you have 10 minutes of your life to waste, forget it. Better yet, try asking the sales rep of MF (or just about any major online retailer) what you can expect out of the strings you are interested in and if there is a better choice that may suit your needs better.

It's the difference between getting help from a pimply faced kid at a call center who doesn't even know what a bass is or talking to a fellow bassist who knows and uses his own product.

Alright, fair enough.

My apologies.

I can totally see where one might think this, but i have to honestly say that even without the discount they are cheaper than my local stores, actually have the brand i like in stock and ship them faster than anyone Ive ever dealt with.

I can honestly say that i will never buy my strings from anywhere else unless i absolutely have too.

Sorry to see this thread was seen as a veiled ad. I posted here because I as many others I've have had nothing but great experiences ordering from Jason.

Recently I asked for his advice on some strings and he was nothing but helpful. I took his recommendation and now have some new favorite strings. I really appreciate that he took the time to answer a question for me.

One thing I like about TB is that we can share unbiased experiences. I've bought other product because others have their honest opinion and I've done the same. Also if I have a good experience or can really stand behind a product I have no problem stating so.

If these threads are ninja ads, they work, because I just remembered I wanted to try some flatwounds and so I placed an order for a couple of sets plus some other odds and ends. I've probably purchased more strings since learning about BSO than I have in the last 5 years. The service, selection, and price are outstanding.

It's understandable how people who haven't ordered from BSO might think this thread is shenanigans, cuz they don't know first hand that the service, selection and price really are outstanding. If it was just great service and selection with average pricing, BSO would still be the only place I buy strings. Jason knows everything there is to know about bass strings and they get from California to New York in two days, sometimes one.

I was going to PM you (Jason), but I figure I'd ask here so others can weigh in.

Has anyone had issues with Ken Smith strings? I am specifically talking about Rock Masters. I've ordered two sets, one from Jason and one from Strings and Beyond. Earlier this year (or before Christmas), I strung my six string up with a set and the B string broke at the headstock. I swore, threw it away, and just forgot about it. I put on different strings.

Today, I decided to string up my fiver with a fresh set of strings. This time I was using the set I ordered from BSO way back in September. What happened? The B string broke at the headstock. I swore again and used an old B string to finish the job.

Two different strings, two different basses. Is it the string itself? It's rare that I break a string while putting 'em on. I always make sure there are two or three wraps, but both of them broke when they were almost in tune. If I had to guess, I'd say around A or Bb.

I've got a question. Knowing that Sadowsky strings are made by LaBella, which LaBella strings do Sadowsky Blue Label Bright Nickels most resemble out of LaBella's brand of strings? I also know that Sadowsky strings are their own recipe but, being made by LaBella, there has to be some resemblance to LaBella's, right?
Also, what other brands does LaBella make strings for?

This may or may not be accurate information... I am leaving it at that...

But as far as when a manufacturer makes for another maker it does not necessarily mean they are the same strings. I can look at strings and see who made them by the way the windings are, the Sadowsky Blue Labels do not resemble the windings on La Bella rounds.

La Bella's factory makes strings for many companies, this is the same for most string makers... And the companies that have other makers manufacturers make their strings, they go to whoever can get them fastest and cheapest... So "Label A" may have "Maker X" make them one time, and "Maker Y" make them next, using "Material Z" rather than "Material Q" When you purchase "La Bella" you get the same "La Bella" Product every time.
