Carry a small notebook (one that´s made out of paper, not a laptop) with you. Then you can write some deep poetry in it on public places. All this while curled up in a very uncomfortable looking pose of course (because you´re soooo alone in this world). Remember to look into eternity with profound sadness in your eyes when you´re not writing.

Being hopelessly out of touch with pop culture, this thread has been very informative. Usually these things cross generational lines, it just that we have different names for them. I'm not 100% sure, but based on what I'm reading, back in my day we used to call people who meet the criteria described, "girls."

;)

Well, if you've been to an idie, emo, or hardcore show in the past couple years, they sure dress like women.

Most of you have horrible conceptions on what emo is and its pretty sad that you're all making fun of something that obviously most of you don't understand. Guess what, if its on mtv, its not real emo! I am by no means emo, but I do own my fair share of emo albums.

Download a few songs and be less ignorant about the genre

Bright Eyes - "Something Vague" (depressing)
Onelinedrawing - "We Had A Deal" (kind of sad yet happy song)
Rites Of Spring - "For Want Of" (bitter)
Hot Water Music - "Trademark" (rocker)
Braid - "The Chandelier Swing" (depressing)
Sunny Day Real Estate - "Song About An Angel"
Mineral - "Parking Lot"
From Autumn To Ashes - "The after dinner payback" (don't want to be caught in the pit during this song)

I tried varying the list as much as possible (some emo is polar opposites of others)

See, this is why JR is one of my favourite TBers, he sticks up for emo, and has awesomeness music tastes! He is right, go listen to Bright Eyes and Sunny Day Real Estate and be educated, don't go slating bands just because you heard they were "emo." The MTV generation will ear-mark anything with melodies or guitars emo nowadays.

Congratulations Lump,
This post was nearly responsible for me drowning in coffee.
(Don't you love how it goes straight up your nose when you're really laughing!)

Is sheep poo emo?

I'm confused. :(

Just get a tighter t-shirt that shows of your nipples. That should do it.
OK...I thought I was a pretty up to date kinda guy...but someone slipped this genre in on me while I was puking-snotslinging-drunk apparently. Would one of you kind souls please explain to me in detail what EMO is? Ive been noticing the Buddy Holly glasses and the black hair dye and black T shirts but I just figured it was some kinda retro-rockabilly phase coming round. Obviously it goes way deeper than that?
Forgive my ignorance...Im from out of town.
Thanks!
