My rented backline adventures

I did a show last weekend where we were told there would be Ampeg SVT-CL head and 810.
Got there n see an Ashdown 410 and ABM575 Ashdown amp.
Now I don't 'mind' these amps and the cabs are Ok. But. ... It ain't what we were told.
Luckily I had my Aggy TH500 in my gig bag. Plugged it into the 410... adjusted the DRIVE control. .. & there ya go. .. Sounded like a decent sealed 810 cab and the amp sounded great.
Love having these small, light great sounding amps on hand.
Normally I'd love the 300w all tube of the CL or my Super Bassman but. .. thems the breaks.

Bit of an oddball, this 410hlf cab here. Says it's made by SLM but the 5th digit of the serial is a U, which would make it a 2008, which is about a year after LOUD took over. Maybe it's spare SLM parts left over or something. No matter anyway, I have to turn down so low onstage I can't hear it anyway. Thought I'd bring the VT Deluxe for a change, but for some reason it's shorting out. I suspect dirty effect loop jacks, but not real sure.

Did you try plugging into the VT and feeding that into the input of the amp to test the pedal that way? Maybe there's a problem with the pedal's power supply.

Well there was definitely a problem because it shorted out on me the first time I stepped on it during the gig. Ended up just unplugging it and going straight in. I'll have to wait when I get home tomorrow night to take a look at it.

River Spirit Casino in Tulsa, with Bowzer, Jay Siegel and the Tokens, Freddy Cannon and Lesley Gore. Early LOUD-era SVT-CL and 410hlf mic'ed with a Shure Beta 52. Not my favorite mic in the world, but it was fine. Last week the VTD acted up on me, but tonight it was fine, so I'm going to blame it on the generator last week causing the 1-Spot to act up. However, I did miss the REDDI, so I'll be bringing it from now on. I know I've said that before, but I really mean it this time ;)

Interesting that they pick that speaker to mic. There's a piece of wood that the Ampeg badge mounts to on the grille frame that covers part of that speaker's cone. Take any of their cabinets and note where the edge of the speaker is and where the grille frame block is to see what I mean.

I figure that it must affect the performance of the speaker, at least in a small way. The other speakers are unencumbered and I always think that one of them would be a better choice to mic.

Got a new one... last night I showed up and had a Digidesign Eleven Rack and Crown XLS402 feeding a ampeg 810e.

I had no clue what to expect out of it and didn't have enough time to dig through it and build a rig. Sooooo, I ran my VT Bass DI straight into the Crown and was plenty happy with the resulting tone.

Phone was dead so no picture, sorry.

I don't know if it would make a difference. I'm wondering if they just pick a speaker and mic it or if some sound people prefer to mic the speaker in the top left corner where the badge is. I never though about it before but I often see this speaker mic'ed.

In a studio, you spend time trying different speakers and mic positions. Sound techs tend to just position a mic on a speaker and fix it at the board.

Markbass SD1200. As I used to own an LMII, I was not unhappy to see it, though I must admit that the compression that helped me decide to sell it was present in the SD1200 also. Still, it worked and I did get a good sound, so I can't complain too much. Except for not having an 810e, that is. But I am a professional, and I went with it, though I voiced my displeasure. Fat load of good it'll do me. Oh well, at least it wasn't a 410hlf ;)

I don't know if it wil work but worth a try: Tell the drummer you HAVE to have a 410 as you now realize it makes you louder than the 810e
