I would venture to say that Jimmy won for quite a while with that setup, dark 810 or not.

Thanks Jimmy, they do a lot of shows like you guys do around the tri-state area. The guitarist is one of my oldest buddies from my east coast days and a great musician.I have not, Jerry. Heard of them, never heard them or run across them.
Been a while...just haven't done much roadwork these past few months. But I have a couple more trips in September plus the one yesterday in Syracuse at the NY State Fair. The show was Bowzer, Jay Siegel And The Tokens, and the last two surviving Original Comets, sax player/vocalist Joey Ambrose (81) and drummer Dick Richards (91). So since they were on the show, I got an upright:

Shen SB-90 plywood with a Fishman Full Circle, strung with Pirastro Obligatos. The best rental upright I have ever played. Most of them are crap, but this one was fantastic. Didn't like the Obligatos, but it had a great neck with low action and a big sound. The Full Circle is a much better pickup than that BP120, too. Brought along my trusty little MXR 6-band EQ to make the sound match up to my electric and my Southampton All Things Equal clean boost in case I couldn't get enough out of the EQ, and it was all pretty close to the settings I usually use with my Upton Hawkes, which made things go a lot easier for me. BTW, my cell phone made it look way more yellow than it is. I mean it's yellow, no doubt, but not as lemony.
But the real story is the Comets. Man, they were excellent! They still can play their asses off, too. Dick's drum solo is awesomeness. Here's a pic of them at their R&R Hall Of Fame induction a couple years ago with the late bassist/singer Marshall Lytle. Marshall was a real special dude, too, and the inspiration for me to take up the upright. Dick, of course, is in the middle:

Yep.I'm glad my people treated you well. IIRC last year it was BAM that provided your backline (Big Apple Music), so I assume Phil did it again this year.
You mean my little suitcase? What's that small amp beside the SVT? Did you have a chance to plug in to it?
Roger, I wouldn't call what I do "playing double bass"that's great Jimmy. I didn't know you played Double Bass. I do too. That is what I went to school for. ....bachelor's of performance Jazz Double Bass.
Yep.
You mean my little suitcase?
Roger, I wouldn't call what I do "playing double bass"Only been playing 10 years, can't use a bow to save my life, and I'm certainly not going to be confused with Miles Mosley!
I would trade any day of the week!you're funny and you've always been modest. Heck....you're working and I'm not.
Uh huh , yep sure.Well that was fun. Just read all 29 pages today. Thank you for the adventure. I am looking forward to more.![]()
