NBD: Elrick just killing it like he always does

I gotta say... wow. Just checked out the website and for $2,299 it seems you can get an amazing instrument with high quality components. That price point is pretty compelling. Elrick definitely on my radar now. I'll have to try to play one soon. Maybe there's a dealer here in Toronto

I love my Elrick NJS5. It has a maple neck.
At one time I owned a second one that had a we get neck-nice bass, quality build.

I traded that one away because I could not get enough relief in the fret board/neck with low tension strings. I have gravitated away from hex core strings and with 0 tension on the truss rod, the strings did not pull hard enough on the neck to get a setup that I liked.
No issues with my maple neck.
I’d like to see Rob build a boutique P5.

From the first day I bought my used Elrick Gold 4 it became my number one 4 string. These days I play mostly 5 and I will have an Elrick 5er soon. While my list is far from as impressive I do own Ken Smith, Tobias, Jerzy Drozd, and a Minnieweather among others, I think Robs work is on par with the best builders. As well as having great customer service the one time I had a problem with a tuner. He simply sent me one free for a bass I got used. Great guy.

Drozd is another one I would like to try. Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to mention him.
I agree about Rob's customer service. He was always quick to respond to emails. He tolerated all my dumb questions really well. We even had a couple of really long phone conversations where he took the time to explain a lot of his methods, the things he has learned about bass building, the ins and outs of the industry, etc. He has been doing this for almost thirty years, so he has a lot of stories.

Very nice. The way the wood grain on the top flows makes the wenge heel blend in nicely.

I’ve had 10 Elricks (11 if you count the one I purchased twice) and they’re at the top of my favorites. Unfortunately the specs I like are not his standards so my only option these days is to order a new custom with pricey upgrades, so I haven’t had one in quite a while. I’d still love to get another some day.

Big congrats! Love the woods combination you chose!

I've had several Elricks and still have my Platinum 4 fretless that's in my avatar. Rob makes my favorite bass necks I've played.

My fretless has barts with an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp. For those discussing the bart pickups, I believe Rob also has built quite a number of basses with Aero pickups. Those who have them love them.

Porterbass if you (or anyone) Brian Tyler) could describe the 5 string profile, I'd appreciate it.
I think my 4 string (Elrick) neck is kind of like a fat jazz neck. Rounder profile which took a little while to get used to, but fits like a glove now.
On fivers I'm finding I really prefer more of a shallow profile C or D that isn't very deep front to back. For example I like my Tobias Assymetrical profile and the Tune I've been playing lately which is more of either a flattened C or D. As is my Lightwave neck. At any rate please describe the 5 neck.

Know I'm digging up an old thread but is the scales length 34" or 35? I noticed a lot of his 5-string builds have the shorter scale length so it must be working out okay. Just wondering if OP or anyone else can comment on the 34" scale on a 5er, in terms of the notes on the B-string ringing out.

This one is a 35, and all of the ones I have owned are 35 as well. I don't have any experience with his 34 inch stuff.

I have been admiring Elricks for a while now..have been wanting the jazz bass version..looks like its coming in right at 3K in price..have not had the opportunity to personally hear what they sound like..but would trust the quality of the instrument..did you get yours with bartolini pickups..it was the one item I wasnt sure about..never really have been a fan of those..didnt know if these were specially wound..definately didnt want one with a lot of sparkle on the high end..would really be a fan of some nice warm LOW end..........here is the one that has my interest.....http://www.elrick.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Expat4NJS1520715Front.jpg
