Yes it is brand new but mine has the SZ serial # so I am unsure of year of production.

Not to hijack from the OP, but I just got a fretless and all I can tell you is, get one. It's so much fun. It takes some work to play in tune, but it's worth it.

I really don't like P-basses, they've never worked for me in either feel or tone....but... I do like the look of that bass to the point where I will have to check one out and see if I can buck my P-rejudice

That'll be a little streak of natural Ebony grain pattern (might be a splash of sapwood) in the wood - and all credit to Fender for keeping it natural and not staining the heck out of the board just for the sake of uniformity

That actually is giving me some small GAS pains. I am no Fender fanboy, but that is one gor-juss bass guitar.

I've tried to master fretless several times but I just could not get the knack no matter how much I practiced. I thought I had it, only to be sadly disabused of that notion on hearing recordings...

Beautiful fretless. Congrats!!! Gotta love those Franklin's.
And yes, not all ebony is solid black. My fretless Stingray's ebony board is similar, but not quite as pronounced. Makes it unique.

It is a special wound pickup most likely modeled off of his Dimarzio he had in his original ..

Nice sunburst finish. Hum, I hope its blend and tone control for knobs rather then just master volume and tone. Otherwise itd be bit lacking in tone tweaking ability from just having master volume and 3way. Anyway, hope it works well for you.
