Congrats! I got mine a couple of weeks ago…and added some chrome:

I thought I would have to destroy the plastic pu cover to remove it, but the pickup is just held in the cover by the foam underneath it pushing it up.
So this is a reversible mod.

Congrats on the new bass. I have one and its my #1. But I want to add to what you said above. This thing definitely does NOT have the Gibson mudbucker sound that many are familiar with. It sounds nothing like an EB or SG bass. Its a fat tone, but had plenty of midrange punch. Not muddy at all - its actually very articulate. Some of it is probably the pickup design, but also the placement. Notice how far back the pickup is located, almost in the P-bass spot. Not up against the neck like classic Gibsons.

Apologies in advance but I don’t know, I am someone who (within practical reason) has never cared what a bass weighs and only weigh one when getting it ready to sell. If “average” is a weight, then this one is average.

I have a blue one. It's a really great playing/sound instrumant. It cracks me up that Gibson ships them in a Flying V gig bag.

I would guess that mines between 7-8lbs. It's one light little bass.

How are these when playing seated… does the smaller body & scale effectively shift the notes to the right?

My regular scale EB bass (2014) is my most comfortable bass seated. Jazz basses a comfortable 2nd. P bass feels a little less comfy. Stingray is a literal pain, as I feel contorted toward the body. I presume factors are a mix of scale length & where the body curve is that sits over the knee.

I’m talking right-handed basses with improper/usual posture of bass on right knee and feet on the floor.

I put chrome covers and a surround on mine too . I loved the original factory strings , and have been putting Gibson Brite Wires on it . Most of my basses have flats on them , but I like fresh rounds on the Jr .

I buy these bridge bars for all my Gibson's from ebay. The are largely unseen but provide more length to keep the string windings away from the saddles. This makes the intonation a breeze to set and maintain.

I see they’re hex core. I’m into lower tensions lately. Can anyone say how these compare to a common string like DR?

It’s not the most comfortable lap bass. The body definitely lays to the right on your knee. Not enough to be a huge bother to me personally, but noticeable for sure.

Regular old nylon lock nuts work great as well. Much cheaper.

The Gibson strings sound great, but I found them to be a little too high tension. I like the way the Fender 40-95 set I recently put on feels, but the tone is lacking in comparison.

It takes getting used to if you play long scale
