NCAA Football 2017 Bowling

UCF declares themselves national champions! Banner, parade and all. As one local commentator said (which I wholeheartedly agree with), they are celebrating something they did not achieve, rather than a great accomplishment they did achieve (an undefeated 13-0 season). UCF to raise championship banner, hold parade

I'm cool with this. Let them make their own fake trophy. Just have them give the Peach Bowl trophy back since clearly that means very little to them.

I like a scrappy underdog, but this quote from the AD made me chuckle.

"There should be change," White said. "It's not an equitable system. It's not equitable in terms of how we do the rankings. The BCS era was much more accurate for how teams were ranked, more objective, and I don't think the playoff is adequate to determine a true national champion. You can't subjectively pick only four teams. I think you need to come up with some more objective rankings, which we already had in place with the BCS, that allowed computers to have a voice, that allowed the media to have a voice, and the coaches' poll to have a voice so it was a combination of objectivity and subjectivity."

Sagarin, one of the rating services used by the BCS, ranks UCF 13th--and that's after beating Auburn. And ESPN's FPI ranks them 15th.

Of course UCF is isn't officially national champion.

But they did beat the team that beat both teams in next Monday's game.
.

Following this line of logic...! Woah! Poor choice of words!

Following this train of thought, my Bride and my daughter...both grads of Th ‘Cuse...we’re pulling hard for Clemson to win the Whole thing so that they could crown The Orange National Champions!:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Indeed mpg.
Mr. White, please stop embarrassing your school, yourself, and the football team at UCF.
I appreciate what they did and was even pulling for them. Now, I'll take a step back.

Hey, football teams have been declaring themselves national champions with little or no justification since the 20's. It's part of a grand tradition!!

Any playoff which allows only four teams in isn't worth much. My interest in football drops precipitously after the Rose Bowl, one of the few real bowl games.

An all-SEC championship game excites me very little. But it's a grand chance to root against Alabama.

It would have been interesting to see them have a chance to prove themselves in the playoff but it is what it is.

It doesn't seem to me that lowplaces was trying to justify UCF's claim to the national championship. He put an interesting fact out there that does make the notion of expanding the playoff field seem a little more intriguing, IMO.

There is nothing more important in the world than sports. NOTHING!

But....but....but....what about BEER?????
