I would think TCU did enough with an OT loss to stay in. Right now, OSU looks better sitting home than Alabama. If Purdue plays Michigan close, it would make OSU look worse. It just comes down to how the committee wants to spin it. I'm sure there are no financial considerations involved
That is a lot. The game was really over at the half, though--Georgia was up 35-10. Nussmeier had 294 of those passing yards, and he didn't come in until the third quarter. So those were arguably garbage time yards.
Yep, this is the Lincoln Riley pattern. If he ever wants to win a truly big game, he's going to have to stop treating defense as an afterthought.

In the history of the sport, I've never seen what Lincoln Riley did to Oklahoma, Ever!!!OUCH...the clock struck midnight HARD.
My head told me USC wasn't elite, but after seeing my Trojans beat arch-rivals UCLA and Notre Dame in back-to-back games, my heart started to believe. But give Utah credit; they've been beating SC on a regular basis.
I think USC and Ohio State are in a similar situation. They both have to get physically stronger overall to compete with the very best teams. The true hallmark of the great Trojan teams of the mid-2000s wasn't the obvious skill position stars; it was the offensive and defensive lines and linebackers, which were consistently among the best in the country.
Lincoln Riley needs to be as good at recruiting and transfer-portaling (it's a word because I say it is!) offensive linemen and defensive players as he is at bringing in skill players on offense. And USC has never won a national title without a great running game, so it would be great to get a Heisman-caliber running back. Otherwise, USC will remain stuck at very good, and the natives will eventually get restless. Having said all that...
Going 11-2 with wins over UCLA and ND, and with a quality bowl bid looming after going 4-8 last season, is a major improvement! I was hoping for a 7- or 8-win season at best. It also nice to exhale after 3 straight big games and relax while waiting for the bowl announcement.
I get what you're saying. I think the main difference is the transfer portal. I predict that what Riley did will become commonplace due to the portal.

None of us did. I'm happy that Michael Penix isn't just going to play in the Alamo Bowl with the Husky team, he's coming back for his senior year. 2023 should be a good year for Washington.
The idea of a Tulane team in a bowl is mind boggling to me, let alone a New Years Day bowl.USC vs. Tulane in the Cotton Bowl. It sure is good to be in a New Year's Day (technically Jan. 2) bowl game again!
I hope USC doesn't go into that game down about not winning the Pac-12 title and not getting into the CFP. They'd better not consider Tulane an unworthy opponent, because I'm sure Tulane will be way up for the game. I hope the Trojans go in with the mindset of finishing the season strong, because the season was a success beyond expectations.
I have two minds about it. I'm with you about Jackson State and making HBCU teams powerhouses. Or at least Jackson State. Grambling is the HBCU team I think of as the pinnacle of college football under Eddie Robinson. In a different era, Robinson probably would have been coaching at USC or Ohio State in short order.
