Not sure if serious...I know you guys from up north don't have a whole lotta love for SC! If serious, though, I hope you're right.

The Trojans still need a better defense to be truly elite, IMO. If they're at #4 (assuming they win the Pac-12 title), they going to get a real test vs. Georgia in the national semifinal.

And I didn't realize the Pac-12 stopped having north and south divisions, which is why I couldn't understand why USC will be playing Utah in the Pac-12 title game. Thank goodness that game is in Las Vegas and not Utah!

At this point, miracles would have to happen for a Pac-12 team to end up in the 4-team playoff. But I do believe the Pac-12 is stronger overall this year than it's been in a while. I think, top to bottom, the Pac can match the Big Ten this season.

I just checked in on the Oregon-Oregon State game from time to time...I did not think the Beavers would overcome that deficit, but whaddaya know - the Beavers did take 'em! And if USC wins the Pac-12 title, miracles will have happened, because they will be in the playoff!

I am quite serious. I have no affiliation or affinity for the University of Washington, zero.
On the other hand, my mother did attend USC. This is why I always hope they do well. Even though she isn't big into football, the Trojans always hold a special place in my heart since my momma went there. :)

It's the Apple Cup, sponsored by...umm...the players? But hey, someone found a way to squeeze a few more bucks from another football game, so they sure scooped up the chance to do so. I always root for USC one time a year, when they play Team Entitlement Nostradamus.

And should they make it to the national championship I will root for them over any SEC or Big Whatever Conference team, most likely. ;)

Washington figured out how to play defense eventually. The Cougs didn't. They were supposed to have a stout defense, too. The Huskies put up absurd numbers when it came to yardage. I don't remember the last time a Husky team racked up more than 700 yards in a game. I don't think they had that many yards back when they hung 70 points on Oregon. That was a long time ago, too. Washington is now ranked 9th. If USC beats Utah in the championship and gets selected for the playoff, then Washington will probably end up playing Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. That matchup didn't go well for the Huskies last time they were in the Rose Bowl. With Penix, the outcome could be quite different if the Husky defense shows up at all. I didn't have high hopes for the Huskies for this season. It just goes to show how college football defies expectations. No matter what happens in the bowls, I'm pretty happy. Yale won the Ivy League, and Washington shows signs of being very good.

The Huskies looked really good in all the games I saw them play. And the Beavers only had one really bad loss this year and hopefully they can sustain that momentum when their stadium upgrade kicks in next season. I don’t expect Nix to stay at Oregon since the OC who brought him in took another job already and by now they’ve poisoned the well for their highly recruited QB who got punted to backup by tranfer portal players the last couple of years. And finally, I hope Dion Sanders takes the Colorado job, because chaos is my jam.

I kinda wonder what's going to happen with quarterbacks at Washington as well. Penix was a transfer, and as good as he is, I don't see him sticking around for another year. If he does, then what happens to the guys behind him? I don't see Huard leaving, but some of the other guys might and recruiting will be pretty hard to do.

One thing about the transfer portal is that it sure has injected another layer of chaos into college football.

USC looked to have a Lincoln Riley Oklahoma defense....under-talented and under-coached.

Why was Williams in playing hurt and vulnerable to further injury, once the result was inevitable?

Riley also turned into Mike Tomlin....'Hey look, we're winning. Let's put this on cruise control for the last 30 minutes and hope they don't catch up'.
They catch up.
The beady eyed stare into the sky like you are really concentrating on the next play to call when you're really thinking to yourself, 'WTH, why isn't this working anymore? I wonder what my wife is making for dinner'.

OUCH...the clock struck midnight HARD.:(

My head told me USC wasn't elite, but after seeing my Trojans beat arch-rivals UCLA and Notre Dame in back-to-back games, my heart started to believe. But give Utah credit; they've been beating SC on a regular basis.

I think USC and Ohio State are in a similar situation. They both have to get physically stronger overall to compete with the very best teams. The true hallmark of the great Trojan teams of the mid-2000s wasn't the obvious skill position stars; it was the offensive and defensive lines and linebackers, which were consistently among the best in the country.

Lincoln Riley needs to be as good at recruiting and transfer-portaling (it's a word because I say it is!:p) offensive linemen and defensive players as he is at bringing in skill players on offense. And USC has never won a national title without a great running game, so it would be great to get a Heisman-caliber running back. Otherwise, USC will remain stuck at very good, and the natives will eventually get restless. Having said all that...

Going 11-2 with wins over UCLA and ND, and with a quality bowl bid looming after going 4-8 last season, is a major improvement! I was hoping for a 7- or 8-win season at best. It also nice to exhale after 3 straight big games and relax while waiting for the bowl announcement.

As tough as TCU played even though they lost, I think they should still be in the playoff. Assuming Georgia (the Bulldogs are up 35-10 at halftime, so...) and Michigan win, the question is who gets the last available spot. Ohio State? Alabama?
