Neck for Bass-Adrenaline

Just had enough time today, to start routing out the cavities. Still gotta come back and fit them all up.

SO here's what I did.... I used mostly the dremel, to fit the pieces together... an 1/8" and 3/32" bits were used.......

IMAG0310.jpg

I had 2 people send me messages on facebook, wondering what I did the cavities with and here's the culprit, that did the majority of it:

IMAG0311.jpg

Got all the blocks fitted, wiped the cocobolo surface with acetone, then glued the pieces in....... since this is wood on wood, glue is acceptable (if it were shell, it would be epoxy or CA)....just added a bit of glue to the bottom only (no bleed out), any gaps (there are not many)will be filled with ebony dust + epoxy......

Here are the blocks, trimmed down. Used the bandsaw to cut them almost flush..

Obviously, the were some voids in the 12th fret block, so I'll be doing one of 3 things, Filling the spots with epoxy ans sawdust..... grafting pieces in place........or taking it out and using another piece......hmm..

IMAG0319.jpg

Put in the side dots....

Marked it...

IMAG0321.jpg

Drilled it, Glued it, trimmed it and sanded it.....done.

After some consideration, I decided to "graft" the problematic pieces......

First, I cut some pieces I had left over from the neck scraps.

IMAG0334.jpg

Then I routed out the sections.

IMAG0335.jpg

I glued together the 3 pieces with CA glue, shaped it and fit it.

IMAG0336.jpg

I glued in the single piece first.

IMAG0337.jpg

IMAG0338.jpg

Then I glued in the the bigger piece.

Here it is before filling, once filled, it will look no different than the 24th block.

IMAG0341.jpg

While I was at it, I got the trussrod cover done too.

I drew out the areas, in which I would drill for the set screws.

IMAG0342.jpg

After drilling and putting the screws in, I put the magnets down, so I can glue them to the cover.

Here it is, on and off....

Radius and fill in work.

First the radius, 14", fretboard and cover.

IMAG0353.jpg

IMAG0352.jpg

After the radius is done, I go back and clean out any gaps, with an exacto.

IMAG0355.jpg

Time to make the filler, I use Ebony dust and 60 min. epoxy, mix it together and it looks like tar.

IMAG0357.jpg

IMAG0358.jpg

I use blue painter's tape, to mask off the areas, so I don't make a big mess.

IMAG0356.jpg

I lay just enough on each one, to totally cover the area and scrape over the edges with a razor blade. Then I untape and let it cure.

IMAG0359.jpg

After going over the fingerboard with the radius block looks like this

IMAG0363.jpg

Sanded it up to 800, scraped out any loose material.

IMAG0365.jpg

Slotted a spot for the nut to sit on.

IMAG0368.jpg

IMAG0369.jpg

It seems that I have 2 extra R's, tried them in a few locations...... No extra shamrocks though..

Looking Great! What direction were you going with for the logo as far as materials and stuff go? I know we discussed a couple things but wasnt sure what to go with.

Also, i noticed the truss rod cover isnt shaped to match the fretboard (its a bit wider). Is that intentional?

Anyway, as far as the R goes i like the larger one on the headstock but think the larger one on the cover would be awesome as well. I just wasnt sure if everything would fit right.
