Never Ordering a Schroeder Cab Again

again with all respect,
Customer called Jorg wanting an 8 ohm cabinet and explained plans to add another cab at a later date. Jorg reccomended 4 ohm because he has a box that he is throwing in that will make it work great.
Customer trusts the expert cabinet maker and orders what is reccomended.
FWIW,
If you have to change the context of what the OP clearly posted in the FIRST paragraph of the FIRST post your not really making much of a point.
We get it, you don't believe the OP.

Here is where you're going wrong you're assuming that this information is correct I am not it's that dadgum simple

Also I am not deeply offended.

I question posters only motivation to post in TB about this subject and nothing else.

Others are taking the OPs post as the gospel, I am not. I question the motivations here as these details seem bizarre to me.
do you know Jorg? if you do maybe you could reach out to him and get his side.
I would be interested in hearing/reading what he has to say

I am taking the OP at his word because that is all we have.
If your premise is he is not being honest, then the entire thread is an exercise in futility.

This discussion has not been futile at all, in the sense that it's increased my respect for Jorg and made me interested in checking out Schroeder cabs. This is what TalkBass does best: inspire GAS. :)

Lets see if I got this right?

Customer bought and paid for a 4 ohm cab. Customer recieved a working 4 ohm cab. Customer later purchases another 4 ohm cab and receives a functioning 4 ohm cab. Customer recieves a functioning series box but does not know how to use it.

I think you missed the bit about the special box allowing two 4 ohm cabs to be used at a combined load of 4 ohms. Post #1 I believe. Strange how that seems to have passed so many by...

Solution to the entire problem:

Go buy 3 new Speakon receptacles. Remove the ones in the box, replace them with the 3 new receptacles. I'd get 4 pole NL4s. Get some countersunk head screws and put them in, wiring exactly as the box is constructed. NL4s are about $5 ea from US Speaker Parts. Go to Amazon and order 3 new NL4 Speakon cables long enough to connect your cabs with. 15 footers are around $15, 3 footers can be found 2 to a package for about $25. And likely the problem is solved all the way around.

If you're unsure how to do this go to YouTube and watch some DIY videos. That way it is fixed, your stuff works. And all this griping can go away.

BTW I have never known of anyone griping about Schroeder cabinets or bad dealing with Jorg in the past. And I've been using his cabinets for years. Only complaints I have ever heard was having a slight mid bump in sound of some cabs, but that has never been my experience. Could have been a difference in opinion of what a bass and an amp should sound like. But they work with my Spectors and my amps.

It was asked how I know that Jorg is aware of this thread.
My comment was an "assumption" based on the many posters to claim to personally know Jorg and conduct business with him from this thread.
I didn't know we were in a court of law and to provide exhibit A for all our thoughts and opinions.
Either way,
if you take the OP at his word, he has reached out to Jorg many times without response.
I am going to go out on a limb and say Jorg is very aware of the OP's problem and at some point I am ASSUMING someone has told him about this thread.
If that assumption is wrong, I apologize to Jorg in advance.
You don't have to be in a court of law to state facts as facts.

I can totally see What Jorg Probably did. Most likely he suggested that if Op was going to start out seeing if 1 Cab would be sufficient, then that Cab should be 4 Ohms. It would then be possible to add a 2nd 4 ohm Cab if needed.

The serial box would allow this to be done with any Amp on the market. There would be double the surface area +/- so everything would be louder most likely.

The only grey are here is if Jorg should have been more helpful with hooking up the Serial Box.
Which is a simple thing to do. We also know that Jorg Did Explain that a Speakon cable was necessary.

Maybe Jorg should have Babysat OP a little longer for the hook up process.

But, It truly sounds to me that OP was already becoming difficult to deal with....

are we the only 2 people who read the first paragraph where the OP clearly stated he called them to buy an 8 ohm cabinet? Is that where all of this goes awry?
I think we all saw that but we all know that most Amps will put out a lot more at 4 ohms.

If you are going to go with one Cabinet then 4 ohms is the way to go.

So If OP was trying to see if he could get by with only 1 cab, 4 ohm was a great recommendation.

If OP was 100% clear with Jorg that he was going to get a 2nd Cab, the Jorg should have recommended 8 ohms.

Until Jorg gets to add his side of the story, all we have is someone bashing a builder with a seemingly 100% clean track record.

And it has evolved into "what may probably have happened here, and who is to blame for it". Not very surprising, or unreasonable.

I'd say any thread that has devolved into pure speculation about events that none of those speculating were actually involved in, is an exercise in the ridiculous. We might as well say the OP's communication to Jorg was intercepted by hostile aliens from the planet Ohm.

That may well be, but this 4 ohms from two 4 ohm cabs thing is rather central to the thread. In fact some might say it's what the thread is all about :)

And the OP stated Jorg promised him a box that would adapt the two 4 Ohm speakers to work with a 4 Ohm amp. If he later contradicted this with a statement saying the box would convert the two 4 Ohm cabs to be a 4 Ohm load, then the OP is as confused about the details as we are. I don't recall the OP stating the box would provide a 4 Ohm load. He may have assumed it would, which indicates a need to learn more to effectively put together a complex system from assembled compnents.

As far as the picture of the box goes, I wouldn't build a prototype that sloppy. Maybe for my own use, but that thing was put together using at least one junk drawer screw that does not fit.

are we the only 2 people who read the first paragraph where the OP clearly stated he called them to buy an 8 ohm cabinet? Is that where all of this goes awry?

If he was pressured to buy the 4 Ohm cab, then that's bad salesmanship. Although that was stated at the beginning, the details all came in as small dribbles over a long time. That is not uncommon, especially since the OP was away from home (or the gear).

Well I'm off to work on my magic box project, 4 ohms from any combination of any number of speakers. I may be a while.

I have to extract information out of people all the time. They might as well point and grunt. I suggest you skip magic boxes and go to an information extractor. Everyone doing tech support needs one.
