Never Ordering a Schroeder Cab Again

i'd be interested in a cab or cabs, perhaps...but one must be a supporting member to post in the classifieds...oh well.

edit: oh hey, i saw cheap tick play in a small club in s.p.i. in the ...well i don't remember now, it was long ago. about 40 people there. they tore it up!

Cheap Tick is an utterly PERFECT name for a Cheap Trick tribute band :D

Now, see, this is helpful. How hard would it have been for Jorg to put me in touch w/his guy, and find some potential, simple solutions. That's my point. In one or two sentences, you have offered me real input. I have a number of different speakon cords. I will try them all, again. Thanks!
Jorg probably doesn't know what a NL cord is, i sure dont. Did you ever talk to him over the phone or was it all emails? Just trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Miscommunication happens all the time. 9 months is a long time though.

But ya, customer service lacks in so many businesses

Also interested in what a 15x8 and 12x10 looks like, thats a LOT of speakers.

Sell your amp, go 2 ohms and be done with it?

Well, running them at 8 ohms could easily be done with a series cable or box and you'd lose only 3 dB. Getting two 4-ohm cabs connected to run at 4 ohms would require magic beyond my ken.

You could use a dummy load resistor, the downside being that you lose power. I've done it in the past as an experiment.

I'm not entirely clear here what the OP was trying to accomplish but it sounds out of the normal protocol for cabinets. Why not just order standard 8 ohm cabs so 2 x cabs would equal 4 ohms. I don't know how many amps besides Mesa that do 2 ohms but I wouldn't build a system around a non-standard configuration. Buy two 8 ohm cabinets. Pull out of box. Hook up both cabs to dUg amp. Plug and play. End of story.

I've met a lot of people on TB that pm'ed me that they had great experiences with Jorg. I don't know his personal situation but I've heard less complaints about his stuff than some of the major label equipment on TB. It's funny how some complaints draw out the hyenas and tear someone up. Not nice.

Good luck to the OP, hope he gets his gear straightened out, sells it, and buys something pre-built and plug and play. But he can't sell here because he's not a supporting member and says he doesn't come around her that often.
I think he wanted two 8 ohms cabs but Jorg pushed 2 4 ohm cabs on him. There are plenty of amps outside the class D space that do 2 ohms like Aggie DB 751 and Mesa Strategy (pretty sure on this one) for example.

When you place 2 ohms or resistance in series with 2 ohms, the damping goes all to hell. You also lose 1/2 of the power delivered to the speakers.

Also, running 2 dissimilar cabinets in series can result in unpredictable results because the electro-mechanical parameters can interact in unpredictable ways.

I'm surprised that Jorg suggested his "box". The only way I know to do what he says is to add resistance which---as Andy said---would really screw up the sound. I talked to the chief engineer at Eminence and he said that any resistance added to the woofer would seriously screw up the damping factor as Andy had stated also. I'm saving up to make a buy of 16 ohm drivers so that I can offer an 8 ohm 2 x 8. I wish I had a magic box so I didn't have to drop $3k to do it.

I guess you could have the 2 cabs in series giving 8 ohms and then parallel that with an 8 ohm resistor which would theoretically give better damping, but still not ideal and you’d still lose half the power... hard to think what could have been intended. Maybe a really big version of the Hot Plate :)

I very, very rarely write a post like this, but here it goes... I ordered a 15x8 cab from Jorg at Schroeder, approx 8 months ago. Initially, I wanted an 8 ohm cab, as to potentially utilize with a second cabinet. Jorg encouraged me to go with a 4ohm cabinet. He claimed he had a "box" that would enable me to run both 4ohm cabinets at a 4ohm load. He said he would include the box for free. I ordered the 15x8. After receiving the 15x8 and feeling that I really did need more on the top end, I ordered a 12x10. 4 ohm, as well, per his recommendation. ...
If this is true, the seller took advantage of the OP's lesser knowledge. A series box could be used to operate both cabinets but only at 8 ohms and with potential issues due to the dissimilar cabs. Eight ohm cabs are and were the only proper choice here, so if the seller pushed the OP away from his original request for an 8-ohm cab, something is seriously wrong.

OP, good luck resolving this issue. If you can, please open the box and post pictures. Perhaps you can get the box to work with your cabs, but you didn't get what you thought you were getting. Peace, Bob
