Never Ordering a Schroeder Cab Again

When you place 2 ohms or resistance in series with 2 ohms, the damping goes all to hell. You also lose 1/2 of the power delivered to the speakers.

Also, running 2 dissimilar cabinets in series can result in unpredictable results because the electro-mechanical parameters can interact in unpredictable ways.
Not to mention the heat generated by the resistor.

My thoughts on boutique companies is pretty basic. I will buy it if it is in front of me and I can see it working. Then take it home.
I don't order things and wait for the surprise. I have been burned over 50% of the time doing that and learned (not just in musical related things either)
I've ordered and bought basses without playing them, but I'd never do that with a cab. That's why I have no interest in cabs that have to be built by one of many builders without being able to hear one. I can't go just on the recommendations of users who already bought one. How often are they going to say, "Ooops" after they've laid out substantial amounts of their hard-earned coin?

I have purchased basses without trying them. But they are well known companies and you can see pics of the bass.
Not the same when someone is building it after you order it.
FWIW,
I am not talking boutique like Fodera or Sadowsky

Yeah, cabs are a little less forgiving - they're going to sound like they're going to sound. Spec sheets are nearly worthless because there is so much "artistic freedom" being taken in which specs are used and how they're delivered. I think I'm in a happy zone now with the cabs I'm playing - Mesa Subway and BBC Matrix. If I had to buy something different than these sight unseen (or ear unheard), I'd probably just p-ss off all of Talkbass and get a quality 410 cabinet that has the angled 4x10 speakers. Or a standard 410. Yeah, they have issues, but if you see them on just about every stage, eh, you could do worse.

As soon as I said that I wanted 2, 8ohm cabs, and he suggested the 4ohm cabs and a magic box, that would have been it for me. As others have stated, he had 4ohm cabs he wanted to sell. Shady business.
And, Jorg knew there was no "box" because his engineer was ill and hadn't built it yet.

And since it's been 9 mos., maybe his designer was pregnant and took time off to have a baby.

Seems to me the "box" should be ready any day now.

I've had better luck with buying cabs I haven't played before than basses I've not played before.
I like trying things...
Yeah, and some things in this diverse market you have to buy to try (depends to some extent on where you are). Not saying that's the best way of proceeding for everyone all the time, but if I wanted to try, for instance, a new Bergantino or Mesa Subway cab, it would involve an out-of-state trip or mail-ordering something I've not played before. I've done both for gear. Sometimes it's worked well, sometimes less so. Sometimes the out-of-state trips aren't practical. Sometimes I've decided that I didn't want to make the investment/take the risk to try out one more piece of gear by mail. Whatever -- we all decide what's worth it to us at a given time. There are upsides and downsides, but one upside for me is that I'm playing stuff now that, for my purposes, far outperforms what was available to me locally.

On a different note, and to play Devil's advocate, is it possible that Jorg said or meant to say that the box would allow two 4 Ohm cabs to be run with a 4 Ohm amp (most likely series wiring for an 8 Ohm load), not necessarily at a 4 Ohm load? I don't have a personal stake in this and don't know, obviously - just trying to keep an open mind before drawing conclusions.

As far as a "box", I was under the impression that the OP had received one and had not been able to plug it in, likely due to an NL-2/NL-4 mismatch between jack and cable. (Though I don't know that, either, and if there's doubt about the safety or resulting load, probably best not to hook it up until those doubts are cleared.)

Here's hoping, meanwhile, that things get cleared up and work out as well as possible for all parties involved.

Excellent post. ( edited for content )

Anyone notice the OP has very limited postings here and has reposted his opening post from this thread in other Schroeder threads and that's the entirety of his content here? Not drawing any conclusions but I'm getting the idea he has no idea what he is talking about and we've seen zero evidence of said box so far.
