New ampeg speculation - A true B15 Reissue?

let me ask you guys something...

so it looks like this amp will be priced out of most people's ranges. if ampeg decided to make a less deluxe but great sounding b-15n that looks just like it except it's made in s. korea with green pcb's, chinese transformers, regular eminence speaker like a beta or delta 15, etc.,

1. would you be interested?

2. what would you expect to pay for it?

also, harley says a hybrid b-15 from s. korea is in the cards. is there any interest in that? traditionally, ss portaflexes have stiffed. but ss technology is so good now that it may just be pretty satisfying in the same way the micro vr is satisfying. i don't know if i'd want to flip a lid for a hybrid, though, especially since they can make a micro head for it.

No interest in a hybrid. No interest in Chinese parts. No interest in anything less robust, easy to repair or with a shorter lifespan. The B-15N is the easiest amp I've ever repaired, which is part of the allure to me.

I think that B15s were excellent amplifiers in their day but I don't believe they are competitive with modern amp designs in the >$1,000 price class. Nostalgia doesn't do it for me - I want performance

+1

Time marches on. Bass in general was very different back then... and not as easily heard.

i can dig that, kindness. it's got a certain feng shui to the design.

anyway, i just realized i never gave my opinions, and i hate to get by without spouting off.

1. i would be interested, yes i would. i've decided it's better to have chinese/korean ampeg than no ampeg at all, especially since i have to use rented amps a lot of the time. it sucks not getting an svt and i already do enough gigs where i don't get one. i don't need to make it worse by not getting any at all.

i really don't need it, but i want one for one reason...it's really really shiny. my 64 is not shiny. it does an ok approximation from a distance, but nothing like a new one. it's also got pitting and scratches, and the chassis is bent and the ot leans a little bit. i would keep it really shiny, too. i'd wear white gloves while setting up, wouldn't allow anyone to touch it, and i'd wipe it down with a clean cloth after every use. and if someone touched it, i would no longer be their friend.

2. i'd go $1200, maybe $1300. i'd be hard pressed to pay more, though.

hybrid...i guess if i wanted a good knockaround combo, a hybrid b-15 would be cool. but honestly, i'm not all that interested in it. i think there's more of a market for it now than there used to be, though.

I don't think a hybrid would fly....probably wouldn't be necessary to keep the cost down anyway. They could knock off a LOT of the cost just by using a PCB instead of an eyelet board, and you wouldn't be able to hear the difference.

... I was hoping so hard that they would actually mass produce these. I want to be an Ampeg guy, but they certainly don't seem to want me to be.
hey, the micro vr is pretty sweet ;)

well look, i think we all knew it wouldn't be cheap...heritage shop...limited edition...those are buzzwords for "not going to be cheap." but there are still tremendous used deals out there. every week i read about someone scoring an old ampeg for cheap.

I guess I'm not familiar enough with Ampeg stuff to know what or how much they limited the Heritage stuff. There's still a head and a couple cabs listed even on Musicians Friend, so I guess I assumed it wasn't THAT limited...

5sg.

Well, let's see...if I remember correctly, the HSVT Cabs = 400, the 4X10 HLF cabs = 500 and the HSVT-CL = 250

That's if memory serves....I could definitely be wrong! (Hell, at my age, I probably am...)

Ok, this threads taken off again. Without reading through all the new stuff I'll say one thing Jimmy, what I quoted there is called "mojo" and assuming prices are similair, I'd gladly trade you a new one for yours any day.:)

i'm taking that amp with me when i die. they say you can't take it with you? i'm taking it with me, pal!

but i would like a nice shiny one for the stage. shiny is cool.

it's not a real price. nobody knows the price yet. but i doubt it'll be $5000.

It can't be but it wouldn't surprise me if it was retailed at a chunk over 2K. Somebody could have the blowout deal for 1899.

I'm not basing these numbers off of anything about brand recognition, real demand, created demand, production overhead, R&D costs or anything else really, just what I figure they'd do. Probably being too nice really. They'll probably list it for 25something. Somebody will still have to push a bunch on the market by making the price start with a 1 so that means 1999.

Actually the deal may be 2239 before you see the 1999 but whatever it ends up to be....I predict it will end with a 9. This isn't boutique enough to give it a special price like $2036.57.
