New ampeg speculation - A true B15 Reissue?

It can't be but it wouldn't surprise me if it was retailed at a chunk over 2K. Somebody could have the blowout deal for 1899.

I'm not basing these numbers off of anything about brand recognition, real demand, created demand, production overhead, R&D costs or anything else really, just what I figure they'd do. Probably being too nice really. They'll probably list it for 25something. Somebody will still have to push a bunch on the market by making the price start with a 1 so that means 1999.

Actually the deal may be 2239 before you see the 1999 but whatever it ends up to be....I predict it will end with a 9. This isn't boutique enough to give it a special price like $2036.57.
well, p2p wiring in a turret board...that's pretty darn special for a big company in this day and age, let alone a company that had some jerkoff who moved ampeg to china and ran them into the ground for a couple years.

That's good. Are the circuit/parts values, etc., the important little stuff the same? How about cab design? Obviously the speaker won't be the CTS but similair character? Altec style upgrade? A friend of mine (drummer's) kid has a peavey practice amp that I got running and gave to him with an Altec 421, I think B, not A in it. Not sure what that means but I put it in there and messed with tuning a bit. That one sounded the best because it was loudest. Big, heavy white castframe thing. Could swap speakers with him. Delta15 has good profile for this amp too. Obviously it would make sense to read through the entire thread, pick out the technical bits, etc.

i don't know enough about the circuit to say if it's the same, but the guys that do seem to think it's pretty accurate. the cab is the same, but the speaker looks more like a jbl than an eminence in that it has an aluminum dustcap. don't know what it is, but aluminum dustcap = win in my book.

My Altec is aluminum dustcap. Maybe the new one is a version of the old Altec upgrade? It's high SPL, good for a low wattage amp like that. Doesn't need much xmax to bring lows 'cause there's not enough power to make use of it anyway. Good mid response and old school treble to boot.

the only reason i don't think it's an altec or altec clone is because only the thiele cab b-15's had altecs as an upgrade speaker. the jbl d130 was the upgrade speaker for the double baffle cabs. so i'm guessing it's some sort of d140 clone. of course, that's total speculation.

... I was hoping so hard that they would actually mass produce these. I want to be an Ampeg guy, but they certainly don't seem to want me to be.

I'm also disappointed about the limited production. Bass players and recording studios are going too gobble this reissue up, leaving many potential customers out in the cold. If the price is around 3K, then I'm definitely pre-ordering.

And good speculation at that, you should've charged them consulting fees. And so it goes, wait for them to come out, get through the early adopters, wait for the inevitable production run tweaks/changes, etc.

So, price differnces between finding an old one and having it gone through/re-done vs. custom local build if you can do at least the roughwork, labor intensive stuff yourself vs. buy new? I guess we'll see what happens.

Be careful of the limited production label. If you have x amount of units available and they all sell at that price you should have

A. charged more money

B. made more units

or really C. -- Both.

It's gonna be a long while before I sink any money into anything made by LOUD Tech. again. I went through three B-100R's that either arrived broken or died within an hour of plug in. Ampeg today is the "made in Japan" of the 1960's. I'll let someone else here be a guinea pig with it and wait to see what the reviews are on any "new" wonderful amp from LOUD.

let me ask you guys something...

so it looks like this amp will be priced out of most people's ranges. if ampeg decided to make a less deluxe but great sounding b-15n that looks just like it except it's made in s. korea with green pcb's, chinese transformers, regular eminence speaker like a beta or delta 15, etc.,

1. would you be interested?

Yes.

2. what would you expect to pay for it?

Significantly less (like at least 50%) than I can buy a good shape, functional, original B-15 for used.

So - somewhere in the $500-$1000 range.

Limited run? Well that does it then. Unless it sells like hotcakes and they extend the series, I doubt I'll ever come across one in the time it would take me to save up for it. Not up here in the middle of Nowhere Ontario.

Besides, I'm fortunate enough to be friends with a tube amp tech/guru. I've always wanted a custom-made tube combo and had talked with him about what it would take to make one (surprisingly little aside from time and patience). And I live in a rural area with a few old-school furniture makers who could build me a fine looking cab to spec. Maybe get a trophy maker to etch me a nice faceplate...

Maybe it's time to just bite the bullet and get it done. I'll keep my eyes open though. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a shiny new B15 I can snatch up. :atoz: Maybe.

Just to change the subject slightly, I switched out the light in my '02 B-15R to a green LED. I like the results a lot. Here are a few pictures for your viewing enjoyment....

Sorry, but this is in the wrong thread. Feel free to move into the B-15 thread.
