New ampeg speculation - A true B15 Reissue?

I've just read this thread from beginning to end and... I can't believe that Ampeg would go to all this bother to hype the bejesus out this "Heritage B-15" and then state that only 50 are going to be made???

1-x of 50 will probably be $5000 per copy.

I predict a bait and switch... make 50 Made in the USA, then six months later release a 100% Chinese or even hybrid model to sell at the $2500 price point.

Bad Ampeg.

:scowl:
hype the bejeezus out of it? they put a couple little teaser pics on facebook and showed it at bass player live. that's hardly hype.

btw, good call on the hybrid model. don't know the price (seriously doubt it'll be even close to $2500, though), but that seems to be the plan.

If the run size is 50 what is the MSRP then ?

I'm out. Depending on price I was going to put off buying a new Mac Desktop and have this as my showpiece amp in my study. Heaven forbid I take it to a jam and get a scratch on it.

Pretty much my Spinal Tap "Don't touch it Amp" :)

I'm guessing (hoping?) that at least one of them is a mini-fridge (full of beer, of course), with a box of donuts on top. :smug: :p
you come within 50 ft of my heritage b-15 with a beer and donuts in your hands and i'll...

oh wait...i can't afford one anyway, and my 64 head is a bit rusty and not shiny...pass me a bud and a glazed!

Question for you AmpegUSA: For the other Heritage items, your website says there are a certain amount made per year. Could you clarify “only 50 made?” Will the B-15 be treated similarly, with 50 made per year or will there only be 50 made period? If you guys are only making 50 of the reissues total... that’s very, very, very disappointing and probably not just to me.

If you’re only making 50 total ever, why even make an announcement (an announcement about an announcement, no less) and get people all worked up about an amp with such a history, only to learn that we’ll never be able to get one anyway? Kind of like other people have mentioned about having a “more affordable” version coming later, that’s kind of a slap in the face. :spit:

5sg.

+1 !!!

+1 Man, I'm really bummed. :(

I'm trying to keep my hopes up, but it's MUCH more difficult after hearing that news. It's easy for me to slip into the train of thought that it'd be better to find an original on the used market and hint hint Ampeg... you wouldn't make any money from that. I'm one of many who *want* to buy a reissue (which you *would* make money on), but it appears that's just next to impossible now.

Actually, you're right. It was TB that hyped the bejesus out of this.

I think it's time I tried the Tech 21 VT.

I wouldn't take it as a slap in the face, if they're testing the market with the heritage and then bring out an affordable version that's made overseas but still keeps the B15 alive I'd take it as a win. I mean honestly I was surprised as hell that they were doing a low wattage reissue, but considering that it was being sold under the heritage tag you had to know that it would be limited edition. 50 is very limited, but still. It's a cool piece. And for the (assumed) price they never would have been able to hit the market with a fully US made reissue. Now, an asian made reissue that is true to form and within the price range of a good-condition original? I could see there being a market for that.

just thought i'd chime in with my 2 cents worth...
i've been following all this since ampegs first hints on twitter and fb.
i was disappointed that they discontinued the b100 & b200r.
i love the B15 sound (from recordings i've heard).
i've never had the pleasure to play one myself.

but as a working musician with limited resources and a need for different levels of power for different situations, i'm very excited that at the prospect of ampeg putting an B15-ish hybrid back on the market. i play most weekends and every level of venue - and between moving my amp and the conditions of a lot of said venues, i wouldn't want to take a collectable or vintage amp and worry about it.
I have 2 b200's. both built overseas. one works, the other is a lemon. so, if ampeg's quality control steps up then
give me a diamond blue checkered 15" with a couple hundred watts, reliable and a good tone & i'm happy. tech 21 can take care of the rest.

From the Harmony Central bass forum:[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

No price yet, but it looks very similar to the 1966 B-15 model.

It's back down to the original 35 watts - all tube.

1 channel, but separate inputs for the 1964 or 1966 sound.

The weight is down from 127 lbs. to approx. 95.

Improved latches and casters.

The sound was very good, but I did not try it with my own bass, so the jury is still out.

Jim

So disappointed.

50 units is silly... there's no reason (no acceptable one anyway) not to make this a production item and list it for $3k+

If Vintage Blue can sell his amazing cabs for $500 there's no reason Ampeg has to be so lame about all of this... they have the means to do the right thing.
