New Ampeg Venture Series

Hello,
I am also new to this forum!
I just received a V12. After a few moments of testing the fan started. I find it noisy. The noise is strange, it sounds a bit like the noise made by old computer hard disc! The noise is irregular and although it is not very loud, I find it unpleasant. For comparison, the fan of my old PF-800 is much less noisy...
Do owners of V12 or V7 have the same type of noise?
I hesitate to return the amp...
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

@Badji I own both a V7 and V12 and they are always silent as far as background noise. Guessing you got a bad unit or there is a source of interference in your vicinity. Does it make that noise after trying it in another area?

I want to see if others are having a similar issue. My V3 (owned for a few of months) started to have issues with my Ultra High switch. When I flipped the switch, a very high pitched sound started. When I flipped it back off, the noise ended. I unplugged the amp and back in and the issue went away. It started again about an hour later.

I am beginning to wonder about those rocker switches. They don’t feel that robust…

Anyway, it hasn’t done it for a few days. I will keep an eye out for more issues.

With ultra hi on, have you experimented with the tweeter switch on your cab (if you have such a switch)?

Hello everyone,
So I sent the amp back :-(
I'll probably try to buy another one because I think the fan noise was a fault (I'm waiting for the black week for the price). I'll keep you posted when I have the new one!

Well the PF500 did have some issues when it came out in 2011 but they were pretty well fixed within a year. I think the 500 is a killer amp, used to have an 800 and still have a 350 but I like my V7 better than either. The V cabs I’m not familiar with yet.
I know it's a few months old thread, but currently playing a v4b reissue and 212av in a punk/power pop band. I was looking at a venture v7 as a "backup" and wondered your thoughts. Really anyone's thoughts are welcome but I know Jimmy has experience with both.

Cheers!

Gigged mine twice so far. No problems. Sounds good EQd at noon. Di did the job. Volume taper is different from most amps but not a big deal. V7 should be loud enough for almost anything. Solid amp

I used to use a PF350 as a backup for my tube amps. Had to use it once when my 69 SVT threw a power tube. It wasn’t quite the same but it was pretty seamless and sounded great to me. The Venture amps are even more V4b like with their Eq, so I think it would be great for that.

Hey everybody!
I am thinking about getting a V3 powered venture rig for smaller stages, but I am not sure which cab to choose. Anyone here already have some experience with the different venture cabs? Are there considerable differences in sound between the 112, 115 or 210, maybe even the 212?

Thanks in advance!

Considerable? Yes? No?

They sound different to me. I auditioned all of them at my GC back to back, except the 210, which they didn’t have.

212 doesn’t sound too different from the 112, but the 212 is a bigger cab and it’s tuned lower I believe. So a little different.

All of them are a little hi-fi and scooped compared to most other cabs I’ve experienced. The Venture amps do EQ and other tricks to do older school B15 and SVT cab sounds.

Now that the VB88 is out, has anyone tried running one of the tube heads (V4B/SVT) through it? I was just curious how it might compare to the SVT212AV, since both are supposed to have that 810 kind of sound.

Dom and Dino mentioned on SVT Time that it sounds like pulling a cover off an 810, so maybe more of an open and less boxy sound?

Hello, do you think venture v7 would be good choice for my first amp, if I am into genres such as punk, alt, psyhodelic, metal, hardcore, post-punk, post-hardcore, but most of all ex-yu-rock music and its punk variant? Or should i look elsewhere? (for example darkglass or Aguilar AG/TH)
Thanks and sorry to bother

All the amps you listed are great amps. For a first amp and the styles mentioned you would be fine with the Ampeg V7...and pretty well set up for anything you might wish to play in the future. Love my Aguilar but also having a great time with the V7. Always a good idea to check the used market. Never a bother. Talkbass has been immeasurable helpful to myself and I'm sure many others

@Steficek , I play similar music and by far my favorite amps and cabs now are Venture series. I have a V7 paired with 210, and V12 paired with 410. I play 3 different Sandbergs with a pick. The tones are fantastic and I like everything else about that equipment. FWIW, I sold my Aguilar TH 500 and SL 210 cab because I like the Ventures better. I have one of the new Darkglass 112 analog combos, and while it's ok relative to other combos, I find it a big less warm and rich than the Venture stuff, and the two overdrive/distortion modes are very on-or-off rather than able to dial that in more subtly like the Venture amps.
