New Ampeg Venture Series

Had a nice chat with Dom at the Ampeg booth at NAMM about the VB-88.

And what do you know? It's a one-hand carry!

I stopped by my local GC today and that cab puts out some volume and it’s really light and portable. Could be a real home run, I can see it being a super easy schlep to just about any gig.

The downside for me may be silly but I have such great gear at home. I really don’t trust playing that cab in a store with a poorly set up bass and a generic amp to get any sense of what it would feel like in the real world. Maybe I will order one from Sweetwater so I could have the luxury of playing it along side my Berg cabs and Jule amp with my own basses

I would add Tom your photos on social media did get me to go into a GC for the 1st time in many years to check it out.

Happy to help fuel the GAS! IME/IMHO, the VB-88 delivers 90% of what I really like in an SVT-810 (the 810 does do the "visceral gut punch" thing better), but can also cover a much wider range of tones than the 810. It goes deeper, and can get a more refined tone (if you want it). It is MUCH easier to move, as well.

All in all, it's a really great cab, and even if I had roadies to move them and they were the same price/condition, I would prefer the VB-88 over the SVT-810 for my own personal tonal preferences - and this is coming from someone who definitely digs an SVT-810.

I need to do an A/B with my NV610T. :bassist::bassist::bassist::thumbsup:

Last cab I bought from GC, I brought my TH-500 and a favored cab for a side-by-side. A real eye opener. I bought a cab, but it wasn't the one I thought I'd be leaving with.

I was a nuisance when I was cab shopping and was bringing my bass and Quad Cortex into 2 different Guitar Centers to try all the cabs that fit my criteria. I felt the 88 is fantastic.

I also looked at getting a VB88 from Sweeetwater and they needed to charge for shipping on that particular item, it didn’t have free shipping. There was a quoted discount to help offset that though. So that plan may not be as attractive.

In the end I decided to forgo the 88 because it was way more than I needed, as cool as it is.

All that said, I was not disappointed at all with my VB410 after I spent more time with it getting it home.

My adventure started thinking I was getting a Subway cab….that was the first I auditioned at GC Hollywood. I feel the Subways are built more ruggedly and probably the sound you want when you’re really ok with a mid forward sound, but I wanted rounder sounding and decided I’d just be gentle with a Venture cab.

Some things don’t change. My #1 go to is a pair of NV115s with Monique 700. A bunch of years ago I bought an old flat back 810 with the square magnet speakers. Pulled the Rolex and stained it and replaced the grill cloth with the silver version. It was heavenly, but after some time having reunions with my chiropractor it was time to move on.

Now an easy lightweight rollable fridge, the VB88, with a micro amp in my gig bag would be great gigging and eliminate the hand truck or rock n roll cart. I love that idea of the fridge with a one trip from the car routine.

I've read many pages in the thread, and the insights and comments have been interesting.

How dies the 212 cabinet hold up to Low B strings? How 'together' does it sound? My new project plays in C standard tuning a lot, and my 5/6 string get a lot of use.

I'm looking to switch from a TC Electronic k212 cab to something a little nicer, and a little easier to obtain a matching cab for.

Thanks in advance

Would pairing the V7 with one VB210 be a good small rig or would you need a second or bigger cab for the V7? Would a V3 with a VB210 do the job?

I mostly play gigs in venues between 100-400 cap and am always DI'd into the PA. We get pretty loud in our rehearsal space though so need something that will hold up there.

I've been using a BA210 combo for a while now but can feel it starting to break down so am starting to plan a replacement. Have loved its tone but its an awkward size and weight for a combo at times. So the high power combined with the light weight of the venture series is really calling to me.

I use my V7 with a single 1x15 and it’s great. No issues hearing myself at rehearsal or on stage, especially with PA support.

Ok, so I did a thing. I have always wanted an Ampeg. I picked up a SVT-3 Pro from a TBer here. I played one not too long ago and was just smitten with the sound. I have become a believer in matching amp and cab by company. I now have a VB-88 on the way. Looking forward to it and it sounds like it will fit my preferences perfectly. Will report back when everything arrives.

I got a Venture V7 amp a few weeks ago and have been loving it, through either a pair of SVT-210av cabs or a pair of SVT-112av. It’s pretty much exactly the sound I was looking for. It’s remarkable how much more I am enjoying playing my gigs/rehearsals with the V7 amp. Wish I had it 25 years ago! Would love to try the cabs eventually.
What amp were you playing through prior to the V7?
