New Ampeg Venture Series

1. no rack mount option is annoying for me. I wish they had rack accessories.
2. Why blue LED instead of ampeg purple?
3. I have no use for the Grit circuit. I already have a scrambler in my HX stomp and my SVTDI.
4. I've already got a 7 pro, and a pf350 backup.
Over all, I'm glad they are trying, but I'm not in the market. I could sell my pf350 to go towards a V3 I guess.

Because that mic'd cabinet thing is a tone choice for some. It is different than the DI sound. Like the difference between playing direct into an amp and putting a bunch of pedals between the bass and amp.

Choices my friend, choices.

:)

I know it’s different. And those amps do have DI out.
But why would you need DI with cab sim when you have the amp hooked to the cab? It’s like ordering a frozen pizza in Italy :D

They have them right here at the Guitar Summit in Mannheim. I tested them briefly yesterday evening and I have to say that I’m positively surprised about the sound.

My favorite cabs were the 2x12 and 1x15. The 4x10 was a bit boomy for my taste.

Nah, the cab sim takes out the annoying frequencies in the PA.

Haven’t seen you in a while…hope all is well!

It does :) But having the amp connected to the cab one can be using a microphone - eat a proper Italian pizza ;) - and mix it from the clean DI from the amp.

I had a hectic year (or two) with recording an album, gigging, family affairs and day job - SGT-DI is my soon-retirement plan ;)

Why would anyone want a cab simulation while being plugged into the real cabinet - which will always sound better than the simulation?

And if going direct is better why would anyone want a simulation of miked cabinet?

;)
So you can use distortion and not have a fizzy fuzzy poopy sound out of the DI because FoHs are too lazy to put a mic infront of your cab. I've spent ages getting my carefully sculpted room sound with miced cab over to the FoH. You could also travel with just the head and still have your big miced sound through PA / into an audiointerface wherever you go.

I hear you on the mic, but found out the hard way that it’s a DI world for bass, so I just make my DI as close to the cab sound as I can with a cab sim.

I was fortunate enough to have in-band sound engineer, so every time I had my sound just like I wanted.

But I totally agree that DI with speaker sim is happening and is a fantastic and convenient tool - and most likely my non-pro SVT III or SVP-PRO are things of the past ;)

I've been waiting a long time for a lighter version of Ampeg cabs but was never a fan of the 'polite' and sterile looking PN series.

That Sweetwater demo sold it for me...the Ampeg grit is there and they look great.

While I love my SVT212 it's a pain to move about, so I'm keen on trying the lighter Venture 212. Maybe I'll go for the 700 as well.

I love Ampeg, it's been "my" sound for years now. I see they're not 2 ohm stable? That's a big miss in my book.
I can’t think of a single time in my hundred years of experience that I needed a 2 ohm rig. And there are so many heads out there with a 4 ohm minimum and they sell like hotcakes that I think 2 ohm heads have a very limited appeal. For me it would just add extra cost for something I would never need.

If you only use Ampeg Venture cabs, they're all 8 ohm (including the 212, which in unusual), so any Venture head can work with 1 or 2 Venture cabs, you just have to check the power ratings.

It's also strange that they don't publish the power of the heads @8 ohm, it should be around 1/2 of the power @4 ohm, so with a single cab @ 8 ohm, the amps should provide:
V3 -> 150 w @ 8 ohm? (all VB cabs)
V7 -> 350 w @ 8 ohm? (VB-410 and VB-212, other VB cabs with caution)
V12 -> 700 w @ 8 ohm? (VB-410 and VB-212 with caution)

Is that correct?

Close, but not always. Like the PF800 does 400w at 8 ohms but the PF350 does 250w at 8 ohms. It’s definitely curious that even the manual doesn’t have an 8 ohm rating, but I would assume it’s at least half.
