New Carvin P bass, about time?

I ordered our test bass as a passive, single P-pickup only, and it's big, full and meaty. Lovin' it so far!

I agree. I pickup, 2 knobs on this bass is perfect

Yeah, I was very turned off by the active sounds in those clips. They were just so extremely trebly.

I went totally passive as well. The split coil is supposed to be plenty hot without active electronics.

I really do wonder what's going on with those active mode sound clips. The preamp, the same one that's in the SB series, doesn't alter the tone in that way unless you jack up the treble knob all the way.

I've never heard ANY preamp that made that kind of change in tone. Ever. Something is goofy. Or, as mentioned, the EQ was WAY changed from flat.

I feel a lot better with some agreement! I'm sure fantastic tones can be had, but it seems like sounds like these or something slightly tamer is what I usually hear out of testers and reviewers.

Man, these all sound REALLY terrible to me, except for the passive P pickup, which sounds decent. (Running it through headphones and/or the line into my TC combo). Just once I'd love to hear some demos with tone settings anywhere close to where I play. Way too much high end and string/fret noise for me.

I'm no dubby flats-and-tone-rolled-off guy, but this seems very thin.

It sounds like the bass was recorded with everything turned up which is not the best tone from this bass.

I commented on that thread, too. Carvin hasn't taken the photo down, so it's not all THAT concerned about it yet ... but if enough people mention it, surely it will either go one way (take the image down) or another (own up and continue offering the SCP in a B series to those who ask).

I have to say: Carvin may lose a sale because of this. I just don't really want a bass with 20 frets, and I much prefer no pickguard.

Oh it exists all right! Took me a while to find it but I remembered commenting on it. It was posted on January 3rd. I took a screen capture of it so you could see for sure that is is from the Carvin page. Bummer they are not going to offer it because I had my mind made up that was the way I was going to go when I ordered my Carvin. Now I will have to decide if I want a B40 or a PB4.

Just checking in-what would the interest in a double P bass 6 string, everyone? Sort of like the old Peavey TL-6 but either bolt-on 22 fret or neck thru 24? Hatching an idea....

Personally I would not have interest in a 6 string, bolt on, 24 fret bass with two P bass pickups in it, but I'm sure there are folks that would like it. I'd like it if the PB or SB came in a 22 or 24 fret option though.

I wonder, though, about pickup balance if they do a double P. The neck pickup might sound weak compared to the neck.
