New Carvin P bass, about time?

If you load up an LB or XB, you're gonna likely take it in the shorts.

It typically has pretty good resale value.

But you know what I mean....for whatever reason, those just don't seem to get the love that the 'newer' models do, even though they are great basses. There's been an LB listed at $675 in our local Craigslist for what seems like close a year now.

Why no 3 band? I touch mids FAR more than any other knob, volume, tone, low, high, blend

You can get that but you give up the tone control and ability to go passive. Not worth it for most.

Well thats not good at all, there no chance I buy an active bass without mid control. I've had G&Ls before & hated not having it.

So if you're saying passive sucks & I'm saying active without mid sucks then I'm back to ... :scowl:

I'm not saying passive sucks. There are several here that like passive better on these basses. I'm saying for me, I prefer active.

Also, there was someone who took their SB to a luthier and had a bypass switch installed with the mid control. So it's doable, just not from factory (as I understand) Probably worth a call to Carvin to find out.

Whoa no one said passive Sucks. Im no purist either. I have 3 preamp pedals on my board, so I don't need it on the bass. The Carvin P pickup, to my ears sounds great and like an active pickup with a wide dynamic range. There is no need to over think the tone option on the Carvin p or SB.

Although I prefer not having batteries in my basses, rest assured that the SCP, J99A + JVA pickups are no slouches in the passive power and tone department. The passive Carvin tone pot is also very sensitive and well-distributed full around the knob.

The passive PB/J sounds so hot and punchy, one would swear there were batteries inside!

If you're buying one to play, get a Carvin. If you're buying a bass to sell, get a Fender. I play my Carvins, I sold my Fenders.

+1 I've never purchased a bass based on the resale value. I buy them to play, not sell. If I sell one later for a big loss I just consider that the price I paid to play the bass while I had it.
