New Dingwall John Taylor Signature

Consider the shipping a bargain then! Import fees are weird, I've never paid any from Japan but I had to play UPS for an ebay bass from Canada. Not a fun surprise.

Yeah, the shipping, especially from UPS, was a relative bargain. But I tried various calculators for import fees and they all come in around $400.
I'm making UPS provide me with a detailed breakdown, something just isn't right here.

Shipping was just under $200, I can live with that. But I've never paid import fees this high before.

You’re getting hit with the made in china tarriff most likely and that’s why the fees are high. Also from the previous posts it’s sounded like the French store hasn’t removed the VAT from the price so potentially you’re paying tax on tax which isn’t right.

Yes, that's exactly what happened. The store told me that the VAT should be refundable however from what I've read you need to have purchased the item while as a tourist in the sales country. Hope that's not the case. Of course, I can claim I was and take my best shot. We'll see.

But, on to the good stuff! From the moment I put my hands on the neck for the first time I knew it was going to be a winner. And in minutes I had dialed in the exact tone I was looking for. I stayed up to 2:00 a.m. last night playing it - very happy with this one! Looks better in person too. The "ding" they refunded me 200 EUR for was barely visible - I had to hunt for it. So far so good! Thanks to Macribas for turning me on to this beauty! Appreciate all the other comments as well.

I'm curious about this too. I recently bought a Sandberg from Bass Central. The same model at Thomann in Germany is much cheaper and I'm wondering if there's some tariff/tax that gets added?

Now UPS is telling me that I owe import and brokerage fees totaling $468. For a 3k guitar? Just shoot me. :(

That's not bad, actually.

My pleasure! But we need pictures!!!

They should have taken the VAT off the price you paid at the point of sale as it was for export, there is no 'claim it back' as you say that's for tourists. I would suggest contact them and ask for the VAT to be refunded ASAP as the bass has been exported, if you have no luck tell them you'll talk to your card company (fingers crossed you paid with a credit card) about disputing the VAT amount as the bass was exported, no company wants to deal with chargebacks so that should get things moving.
You could probably get a few $$ from the UPS (well the government) pending the outcome of step 1 but that might be more trouble than it's worth.

Not sure if this belongs here, but today I took receipt of a John Taylor Dingwall. Just not the one you guys are talking about.

A couple weeks back I was drooling over the JT5 models on Sweetwater, but saw a special deal on an Artist Demo bass at FretNation at a great price.

After purchasing and receiving the bass, and confirming this information with the seller, I am happy to report I am the proud owner of the black Dingwall NG2 5 JT used on tour throughout 2022-2023 in the USA and Europe, specifically on the opener "Night Boat". As far as I know this is the only time in the set he used this bass, but it's pretty cool. And it seems to be featured in JT's official Wikipedia photo.

Needless to say it plays like a dream. And when I play it I can think back to seeing this very bass on stage back in September and thinking "wow, that sounds good".

So NBD!

Fellows, it just so happens I need to pay for some bathroom renovations so I may have to put my JT-owned bass on the sale block. I will sell it on TalkBass for what I paid for it plus shipping if anyone is interested. Please PM me if so.

Good evening JT brothers! The beast has arrived! Rather than waffle on, here is a video! I'll give you the scoop, however, that the reason I went passive was that active was giving me an annoying buzz in my studio. Taking the bass to my (usually much noisier) downstairs environment results in the bass behaving as intended. Huh? Something is misbehaving in my studio. :sour:

Finally 🙃
